I have a lenovo laptop with Vista, evertime I try to read a cd in the DVd RW drive it doesn't work. All it tries to do is 'format a blank disc'. It does this with every disc and won't read what's on them. Is it just a setting that needs tweaking, it says it's working properly and the driver is up to date?

Are they cdr's that your trying to read or proper cd's? Some drives struggle to read recorded disks and think they are blank, hence the offer to format. You could try giving the drive a clean with a dvd cleaner, that may help. If it's doing it with normal cd's i.e music then the laser may be dirty, again a clean may help (run it through a few times). Failing that mate, the laser may be out of alignment or the drive may have another problem and will need fixing or replacing.

Have tried original music CD's and a conzult disc, just tried DVD and no luck. It does show the amount of info on the disk (gb etc) but that's it.

Could be your drivers. Open control panel then device manager, drop the box down under DVD drives. Assuming the driver is there right click on it and select disable, the right click again and enable. Reboot your lap top.

Also go into my computer and right click on the dvd drive, select properties, then recording and make sure your dvd drive is showing in the first box.

Trying to get it working to load Conzult as it not working on the wife's and need to set the car. Any help appreciated

Only thing i can think of is go to the manufacturers web site and re download the dvd driver. If that doesn't work it may be a problem with the hardware
