Nice motor that...

I know they are good cars, go on and on really and everything tends to still work.

i had one in the estate version with the 2.2 155 bhp diesel engine and it was a nice car, well built and fast for a diesel, the only issue i had is it killed my back, i had to sell it as the seats are awful.

I work at Ford and can honestly say that the STs hardly have any common issues, only problems with that shape mondeo tend to be with the diesel engines.

there not uncomfy but just not very supportive and used to kill my back after 5 minutes of driving, its quite common if you search it. I believe the full leather recaros are much better than the half leather seats i had in mine

I saw a re-run of top gear on dave the other day, clarkson was testing

a mondeo st220, he loved it, reckoned pounds for performance, it

couldn't be beaten.

the newer shape ones use oil more than the old ones but the older shape costs more to insure and also make sure you swap the water pump for the metal impellors one rather than the pastic type. i ran mine 4 yrs without any problems what so ever and it took a real tonking at times.

loved mine but just missed big jap guzzler which is why i part exd the old shape st200 goes for peanuts now

My dad loves his Fords, keeps buying Granada Cosworths. yeap he keeps buying them as one goes wrong he just keeps buying another.

I really cant work it out! he likes all the buttons and gadgets apparently, but dad! they are gay...

I keep trying to get him to get something cool, Lexus Soarer is a gadget car with some power too. and does not look like a brick with wheels.

I like the STs, but if you're gonna get one, do the decent thing and get a saloon! The hatches look so out of proportion. But the saloon STs are quite handsome and classy looking cars.

What a coincedence, I bought a 54 plate st220 last week. Paid £7000, with 46k on the clock. Wanted a monaro but couldn't scrape the cash together really.

First impressions, brakes crap, ride quality good, seats crap, engine really smooth and quiet but don't know why people get so excited about the performance, it's not what you'd call a fast car.

S'pose it depends what you're used to.

Tried an overtake on a country road two days ago, blimey, could have done with some nitrous halfway through. Not much low down torque, not much power below 5000rpm.

Feels very heavy and not much feel through the wheel.

Clutch feels a bit wooly too.

Yes I know I'm used to bigger engines but I was still a bit dissapointed with the acceleration.

Having said all that, looking at it purely as a family saloon it's very nice and we actually like it.

Have to admit I like the hatchback version in black, very nice anyone know what sort of mpg people get out of them or is that a daft question?

My wifes cousin is a taxi driver and uses the 2.0 petrol, every one his had so far has clocked up over 200'000 miles. His current one a 54 plate has 216 odd thousand last time i seen him. Obviously serviced correctly, good car but i wouldnt want one.
