Bells fully functional again, it just needed reprograming under instalation mode.

Right; ok our lights we all know are pants, at the weekend someone suggested reducing the distance between the bulb & the lenz itself! As a maglight torch! Hmm, and so to

give a light beam rather than a ring semi circle on the road.

(brains now doin 20 to the dozen) so I'm willin' to have a go, by milling the plastic ring that holds the ali bulb holder shorter in testing stages to see if there is any improvement. Thus keeping all parts the same

But I need a donor light to experiment on pref o/s as this seems to be the worst.

So who's got one spare or goin cheap.

Or has this been tried before to no result.

And what do the rest of you think?

The bulb filament needs to be at the focal point of the parabolic reflector, moving it is just as likely to make the light pattern worse rather than better. Experimenting by moving the bulb by hand first would be wise.

Incidentally, not all bulbs are absolutely identical, therefore the optimum setting is liable to vary slightly from bulb to bulb

Harve,

Andy is right - the important distance is the one from the centre of the light source from the focal point of the reflector. The distance to the lens isn't a factor.

Despite the useless nature of the lights, Nissan are unlikely to have got it very wrong in getting the best out of the setup which is there - that's not to say that I wouldn't love you to prove them wrong and share the news with us !

The only other thing to bear in mind is that the change in distance needs to be in fractions of an inch.

Good luck - and do let us know the outcome.

Hi Andyp,

I'm running std set up, tried upgrades etc, still not good, if I can find a better lense projection on the road with this set up, ha ha if not bo ho, I've wasted my time, but if it works even a bit better its a step forward 'cos its not right at the minuete, I could even make dressed outward spacers to reduce prism effect if I think that tests better.

So whos got a light then!

Sorry Andyp,

I meant to the front of the dome lense not the front lense! You know what I mean by milling the bulb housing shorter!

Hairsy,

I can work to 100th of a mm but I'm not going to test every 2 minuets, so I'll go in 0.5 mm stages if it gets worse after fitting on me car I'll go the other way.

I'm sure Nissan did all they can but I'll try and make an improvement.

If there is any '+' at all you bunch will be the first to know & (see), if not bhaa humbug.

The guys in the US are now all installing HID-kits in their Z's and the reactions I've seen so far far are very positive.

Personally I find the price of the kit is still a bit on the high side...but I'm considering it though.

Also a little while ago some people were removing a bracket in the headlight that was blocking the bulb or something...I'm not sure if this is legal though, since you'll probably blind everyone/everything that is in front of you..

Do a search on twinturbo.net if you want more info
