If anyone can help me with advice on if this can easily be done:

Got a project that will be using a dosing pump like this http://www.wmcpumps.com/aquarium_dosing.htm It's variable but I need to be able to control the speed/flow of the pump by means of sensors switching on/off signals. I emailed the company and they said "they all use DC motors with voltage regulation to adjust the flow". What does that mean and can it be controlled electronically?

Cheers

Vijay

it says either variable or fixed speed configurations so variable should come with a button on it to adjust the speed.

The variable has a control knob that you would turn for faster/slower. My question is can it be modified so if a contact was closed it would run at min, another contact would be say 25%, another contact at 50% etc. so I could have different contact points/switches for different speeds.

this would be abit more complicated to set up and could be done using varoius relays and potetionometers or some sort of logic board

Cheers Chris. I really don't have the electronics knowledge to do this, would you have the time to help if I bought a pump?

it's been a while since i've done any electronics, most of the parts you can get from maplins depending on the voltage, but i don't mind giving you a hand, whats it being used for

The only problem i can see is that they are 240v , relays aren't a problem just depends what sort of swith your looking at using etc

Basically I'm making a stove to heat my house and I need to control the fuel (which will be biodiesel to start then veg oil). I need to obviously be able to control the temperature of the flame so intended to have thermostats in either the stove or the flue (or possibly the heat exchanger) which will then control the fuel delivery.

The main problem is the burner has to be lit manually so at the lowest setting, the fuel still needs to be delivered at a minimum flow to keep the flame alive.

Been thinking about your diagram earlier and would I be able to use a rotary switch with each position a different resistor? Or what about a dimmer switch?

a varistor with a slide control is what you need mate.....like a scalextric gun but without the return spring....blimey vijay hope you know what your doing or north london is going to be a lot less densely populated...:D
