Will attempt to remove the plenum in the next week or so,to replace my injectors and have read with interest the article on twin turbo.net.

Question:- is it worth carrying out the water bypass, and what are the benefits/disadvantages, i guess nissan would not have fitted it if it was not necessary:tongue:

And also looking on the above site it mentions drilling out the hose conn.........why:confused: i cannot see why this is required.

Any thoughts and help

Cheers

Dave

The only advantage to the bypass is to prevent leaks as there are less pipes and 4 joins insted of 8. blockages in the small pipes and to free up the coolant system

There is no down side to doing this.

But if you want to keep it as is then replace and the old with new or you will have a leak soon after once it has been disturbed.

Also with doing the bypass it makes it easyer to remove and replace the plenum in the future :)

The only downside would be if you lived in the arctic.

It's only there to warm the intake system and stop it icing up in sub zero conditions.

Upside is you remove 90% of the water pipes on the engine so you won't break down with water leaks in future and have to do the whole plenum off job again.

You don't need to do that - I didn't.

Just means there are no pipes sticking out the bottom but who cares?

;)Cheers Chris very helpful as always:D

Just hacksaw off the bits that stick out the sides if they bother you but they're hardly visible anyway.

Mine came off in bits so glad I ordered one.

It's under boost pressure so could be a bit of a bummer if it leaked!

there is another advantage to a plenum bypass & hat is your intake plenum will be cooler so your air into the throttle bodies going through the plenum should stay cooler!!! cold air in the intake is better than warm air!!!

I doubt you will notice any differace tbh as it is red hot under our bonnets. But in theroy your right :)

Hi there. My plenum pipes on both my Z32 need replacement and it looks that i would finally delete those as i cannot find the oem pipes. What are really the disadvantages of deleting and bypass the cooling system? Thanks Simon

Assuming you mean the coolant lines under the plenum - then there is no real downside. (Nissan over engineering the heating of the TBs)
