I've melted broken parts back together with the hot-knife attachment in my gas soldering kit before but it's only really suitable for doing the back of something that's going to be hidden.

I'd imagine the fumes will be rather toxic! :hurl:

I need to repair the engine undertray parts and hoped it'd work for that................

not sure if it would work on an under tray as it is really cheap plastic and really thin. so you will most probs just burn through

a common practice this game in the motorcycle world...bike falls over and instead of forking out a grand for new plastics just get it plastic welded instead..even get the same colour rods to match the plastic pigment;)

Never thought of it burning through thin materials :(

Could you not out a piece of plastic on the engine side covering the crack and pop rivet it together. or use a tube of plastic tube glue (plumming)

  • Author

Not just one crack though, I've obviously gone over one speed bump too many ;) Probably do something like you've said though to act as supports but not sure what you mean by plastic tube glue? Got some Sikaflex I can use which should be strong enough :)

Yes Sikaflex will do the job

If i could get hold of a mint undertray then i will start to make them. I might take mine off and give it ago??

  • Author

What material would you use to make them?

The only part that's damaged on mine is the small intake scoops which sit slightly lower so hit speed bumps etc :( By the way, I mean on the 2 side parts that go from the arch to to under the car ;)

Vijay

Not sure which part you mean.

But it would be out of black fiberglass. and backed up with core matt or woven roven so it will be nice and strong :)

I meant will it be strong enough to take the impact of speed bumps etc ;) I just imagined fibreglass would crack on impact?

If it was made out of roven it would be really strong. you could jump on it , but if your banging into speed bumps every 5 min then who knows??

Sand paper each side of the crack. Form a fillit of Sikaflex the length of split and smooth with wet finger with out leaving it to thin. "SORTED":)

Sand paper each side of the crack.

That's gonna sting!

Can't you buy the undertrays fairly cheap?

Mine were in so many pieces I took the remains off and keep thinking of getting new ones.

but if your banging into speed bumps every 5 min then who knows??
