Hi there everyone,

Had a bit of a nightmare week this week. Got a couple of problems that I'm hoping you can help me with.

1. Front left brake caliper pistons has seized, 3 of the 4 totally stuck solid.

2. Rear brake lines will not part from the hard metal lines. The join is totally rusted solid. Have goodridge lines to replace them with.

I have tried all the obvious solutions to both problems but all to no avail so its now time to get serious.

I am open to any solutions including upgraded calipers but nothing too stupid in price please. The car is my daily driver and being off the road out here is a total disaster.

Many thanks, Rob

Have decided to sling the standard front calipers in the bin now, looking at various Brembo's with custom mounts.

With the lines tho really need a solution, replacing them as they had started to perish and rear left was leaking.

Cheers, Rob

If you have the patience you can sometimes release the stuck pistons by putting the caliper back on the car but with the disc off! U then use a wood block between two pistons while you use a G clamp on one of the other ones and then use the massive pressure you can make with the brake pedal to ease each "free" one out. I broke a G clamp doing it. But once you get them out you can see which pistons to replace (£16 is each). With good pistons you can push them in with your fingers!

Alternatively there are places that will sell you refurb calipers with your old ones as a return.

Doing the rear brake pipes is a problem. Some argue best to drop the rear subframe or alternatively the diff.

I have to look at this myself.

Same problem as mine... my front right caliper has 3 seized pistons...

Did a little shopping around and you can get 2nd hand calipers for about £90 (Paul@SWZ here) and a refurb kit for about £70 (from Mike, can't remember his user id). Can't remember whether that includes the pistons or not. PM me if you need the contact details.

But in the end I settled for a set of K-Sport 330mm 8 pot brakes kit which is now £990 I think. They are supposed to fit onto 17"s but I have to get a new set of 18"s.
