yea i know. just hope i get no more surprises. iv already had crocked sill and a million stone chip that have me dead from sanding. but yea it will be worth it in the end.

Well i'm gonna do mine myself so i can't wait for summer to come round then i can get on with it, in nice weather lol :D

im doing everything bar the actual sprayin. leaving that to a pro. on the passenger door iv counted ten yes ten coats of paint already on it.

Bloody hell - well it was well protected then lol.

I've got loads of prep work to get done but i'll be doing everything myself including the spraying. And then all the flatting off and buffing back up afterwards. A grueling process and a tremendous amount of work but will be well worth it :D

If the weather is ok tomorrow i'm gonna fix a dent i have, as its bad and i'm sick of seeing it. Seems nuts if i'm gonna respray in a few months but it looks so bad - grrrrrrr.

yea well its well worth doing it as we need to keep these things alive as long as possible. And since i lost my job the Z is my only worth while possession ( well apart from wife and kids). so if i left it till next year i would have to replace panels rather than just paint them. iv changed front drivers wing as iv got alot of panels and parts from my scraped Z. My only saving grace is the insurance company are paying for it so thats a big break.

Well tbh thats why i need to do it myself, cant afford to pay a pro and my insurance have no need to pay for it for me lol.

Just gotta decide what colour etc.... :D

the colour im going for is very simular to candy apple red. I saw my colour on a honda bikes petrol tank and taught that would look great on my z so had to have it. the engine bay wont be done but im not gonna sell her so i dont care if anyone says anything bout it but cant be bothered removing it. Might do it bit by bit wiv engine in place if thats possible.

Thats weird - i was considering candle apple red myself! But my biggest concern is the engine bay - there aint a chance in hell i'm taking the engine out etc.... so the bay will have to stay grey. Which means ideally i want a colour not a million miles away from what i have so it looks ok, but i don't want it Gun Metal Grey again!

So far the ones that i would like are either -

Candy Apple Red

Ferrari Titanium

or

British Racing Green / Cobalt Green.

None of them are anything like my grey tho  I suppose i could just say nissan only did the bay in primer

dont be put off by the bay. Just go wiv the candy apple. But do u know the price of that proper colour. iv been told it like a 3 pack paint and costs a fortune.wait and see how mine looks as its very close and if u like it i will send u the colour code.

Yeah you're right, will go for what i like the most i think :D

I have'nt looked into the price of the paint, but it will be the only expense for me.

Yeah well i'm months away anyway so i will look forward to seeing yours and if its close a colour code would be great!

Thats a lot of good work you have been doing Richard. I can't wait to see the photo's when its done, and hopefully see it "in the flesh" in June, if you can make the meet that Trish is organising.

I think there are engine bay "skins" or at least thats what I think you call them, and get them sprayed the same colour as the rest of the car. Ask J1mmytt as I think he may have got them done for his respray. I think they are small enough money to buy.

just finished sanding it down today. must go over each panel now and fill the little stone chips and then she will be ready for a coat of primer. hard work but will be worth it in the end. lots of hidden corrosion to repair as well but its only small patches so should be ok.

  • 2 weeks later...

Hey Richard, how did the respray go? I think you were hoping to have it done last weekend?
