Ok what we got here then, a zed with an odd sound from the engine area, some thought was big ends, some thought was little ends and some even thought VVT springs.

Well non of the above, the car has just been treated to a pair of new turbo`s ( last month) but they are fine and fitted well and are not the problem, sadly cannot say the same about the workmanship on fitting the gearbox back to the engine

Cut it short when the gearbox was refitted he did not refit the side brackets between the gearbox and engine so there was no lower fixings at all, the top 4 fixings were all loose and the gearbox had started to fall backwards!!! the flex plate was been twisted by the torque converter !!

New side brackets 6 new bolts and all the others torqued up and all was well...lucky man.

Oh and where had it been done....well I am dumbfounded to say by someone who professes to be a 300zx specialist and is known here, this is shocking in our view and I sincerely hope the customer complains about this shoddy work.

As a side issue , the last photo shows the exhaust brackets missing on the gearbox, but even worse the hangers were jammed solid metal to metal which would cause noise and vibration.

my point was should another garage or specialist be on here showing other garage mistakes,

or should this be kept between owner and the original garage.

Oh and by the way it wasnt me :)

i think jeff was just pointing out the potential dangers of jobs that take a long time to complete, things can get overlooked, it was a warning for us to check the work as much as the mechanic that is entrusted with our cars, when i have had work done by garages, i have asked them t leave it on the ramp so as i can see the work done, then check as much as i can, also take the car for a long run to make sure everything is as it shoudl be, i have had no probs in asking this and if any garages get their back up when asking these request's then they aint worth a look IMHO

to me this thread seems like a heads up that you should check any work that has been done on your cars. i dont get why everyone is going the name and shame route, jeff didnt say this he was just showing a job that was sent to him. i do the same in my plumbing/gas work some shocking jobs need to be shown. BTW that is very shoddy work :nono:

a new zed owner from horsham joined this site the other day..apparently runs a garage and fixes zeds...whats the chance its the same...?!:x:

Now that would be funny!! Who was it?

agreed that as a heads up it is vital it isnot turned into a name and shame as Jeff and the car owner specificaly do not want that , possibly the car was missing brackets and bolts etc prior to going to wherever it went ....mistakes do happen nobody is perfect ,

lessons learnt on both sides maybe ? ...either way this forum is first and foremost about information sharing to keep these wonderful machines on the road ...as jeff said a PM is all is needed if you want to know more info ...no need for anything other than the info on this thread IMHO.......it was intended as a heads up as i have said and thats how people should take it ...yes or no ??

I really enjoy reading the Jeff "Why is this one broke" threads like these.

They are a good read, lots of pictures, they are also educational and knowledge with these cars is important.

If people try to turn this thread into something it's not then I assume Jeff will stop posting these type of threads and then we all miss out.

So please just relax and stop trying to start a witch hunt and cause trouble. Dont; spoil it for the rest of us that pay a subscription on here !!!.

Steve your a mind reader:D when originally posting this thread I did it for information only hence no requirement to include names etc. I have since had the opportunity to speak with the both parties again and it transpires that such things as the side brackets were in fact already missing and the loose bolts had been torqued up, speculating why they subsequently came loose etc. will send us all crazy so as Steve correctly said lessons learnt all round.
