my car got keyed and because my bonuses are protected i claimed for a respray cause of the damege. The assesor came out and viewed the damage and says cause the car is in such bad contidion that i should cover alot of the cost of respraying it. I accept the body work wasnt perfect due to some minor peelin of laquer and a not so good paint job done on it a few years ago before i got it. But the car is 18 years old and is never gonna be perfect. what am i to do as i cant afford a ful respray.:headvswal

iv only an excess of 150. an estimate to fix the original bodywork is 700 which iv told them i will cover. but they, i think are tryin to say the car is not worth doing up. the car itself is a cracker. no problems and drives perfect. i can post pics of original paintwork if anyone would like to see.

Surely if they think its not worth doing up then they have to class it as a write off so you should get the value of what the entire car was worth before it was done?

Just sounds weird.

yea it is weird as i paid 7000 and have put another 1500 into it. but all they will give for it is about 3000 which is less than a paint job.

When an insurance company pay out for paintwork, they do so purely to repair the damaged area. It would be very unlikely that they would pay for an entire respray of the vehicle unless it was all damaged.

If this is the case it would be expected for the policyholder to make a contribution to the repairs as an entire respray would improve the standard of the vehicle to better than it was prior to the incident. this is classed as betterment which the insurers do not allow, as it technically means you are gaining from insurance which is illegal.

hope this helps.
