Engine running but no drive .. Help!

Coming home tonight and I over took someone and as I went to change gear I heard a crunching noise and found it difficult to engage a gear.

Finally got it in gear but everytime the gear engaged it made a funny noice and seemed to jurk a bit. It still went though.

Just gone out to see if it was OK. Put it in 1st and pulled away but when I engaged 2nd gear and released the clutch, nothing

I had to coast down the road to park up. Now it will go into gear OK but when I release the clutch it won't go anywhere.

Any ideas ?

Does the clutch pedal feel the same now as it did before the problem occurred ?. It could be a clutch, gearbox or back axle failure or even the crankshaft shearing at the rear main bearing. Sounds like you need to do some testing to determine what has failed. jack the rear of the car up and put on axle stands ensuring you can get underneath. Put the car in gear (engine switched off) release the hand brake and then whilst under the car turn a rear wheel (you will have to get someone to hold the other rear wheel still) and see if the propshaft is turning. This will show that the axle is working OK. Next, start the engine and put into gear and shine a light into the opening where the clutch release arm enters the bellhousing to see if the clutch and the input shaft are rotating. If not then your crankshaft has sheared. If the clutch is spinning and the input shaft is not then your clutch has failed. If the clutch and the input shaft are both spinning but not your propshaft, then your gearbox has failed. Good luck.

When it started It was hard to get it into gear, 4th especially. The clutch pedel did feel different so I am hoping it is the clutch and good old Zedworld can sort it out for me..

It's my daily drive and £20 a day in taxi's to and from the station is not what I need just now.

Gutted mate! Hope it get sorted soon. I'm sure Zedworld would have it back on the road in no time.

Got the car back last night.. It was the clutch.

Took it for a spin and it feels as if the clutch is slipping under heavy acceleration.

Is there an easy way to see if it is slipping ?

put it in 2nd or 4th carnt remember with the handbrake on rev it slighty and release the clutch if it stalls then its ok if the engine revvs up and dosent go anywhere then its slipping

If its slipping with a new clutch fitted the pedal might need adjusting to suit the new unit, maybe the garage who did the work did not know this, I you ned it I will find the how to link.
