right im thinking my clunk may possibly be these rubbers. now are there any aftermarket alternatives for these or is there just the nissan jobbies?

Featured Replies

depends what ya got?

You can fit pillow ball mount jobbies that rid of the rubber and replace with a bearing for no sag at all in the suspension making it easier to setup the weight/height in each corner if running on coilovers of course. I think they are only available to certain coilovers. Have a look.

I looked into this and found some universal ones at Demon Tweeks I think it was but decided to go for origional Nissan as they looked quite a but different and not sure they would have worked as well.

Have you checked your shocks? I have just changed my suspension over, didn't have any clunking before with the old stuff, then when I put the new stuff on I was/am getting clunking from the rear left turret which can be heared by pushing down on that corner and when driving!

My old upper rubber seats look a little worn, but fine. Any way I removed the shock and I have definately got play on the shock shaft (brand new!)

To test, push the shock shaft about haftway in, then quickly as poss move the shaft up and down an inch....pronounced end play and a clunking noise indicate faulty shock....

This is whats wrong with mine and the sound is amplified through the car when fitted!

the thing is my shocks seem fine. pushing down on each corner of the car they return to rest without any bounce! might have to whip them out and have a look tho just to be on the safe side.

btw the spring/shocks i have are kyb climb gear shocks and springs which are japanese only market , cant get them anywhere which is annoying as they are great for handling!

look like these but in better condition http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&item=110368437181

Like I said, my shocks are brand new (o miles done), yet one is faulty causing a very regular clunking noise at the turret top. Other than the clunk though, they seem perfect, but I'm not putting up with that....its faulty.

It might not be your shock/s, but unless your upper seat rubbers are really shagged (mine were quite good really) I wouldn't have thought the clunk was from them.

Good luck!:)

Keep us posted with on this - its always good to know the cause of these problems for future reference.:duffer:

been trying to sort it for 4 years LOL

Clunking over bumps?

clunk when pulling off?

Rear or front?

Have you checked the rear lower shock bushings? If they are really worn then they will clunk all day.

RIGHT DOESNT DO IT ALL THE TIME.

definitely front

sounds upper side of the suspension.

does it over pot holes and speed bumps

cannot replicate at standstill eg bouncing each corner.

seems like its where the wheel gets pushed backwards by the bump /pothole.

mots dont pick up any faults with the suspension ( movement in bushes etc. )

had wheels off and looked but cant see anything substantially wrong!

POWERTRIX adj upper link arms

POWERTRIX adj tension rods

KYB climb gear springs and shocks

I recently had a serious clunk from the front and you know what it was...

Coz i have my suspension set so low the arms were adjusted out so much to counter the negative camber and the suspension arm which connects to the top camber arm was hitting the side of the chassis when moving upwards, Its now literally dented the space where it was hitting and can now freely move up and down, crazy lol, If i had of known i would have ground down the arm slightly to make space for it to clear.

now i just got to seal it up so it doesn't rust.

not saying this is your prob though. but you could always check.

Are your lower arm bushings new?

Your sway bar drop links could be worn and these would make a nice clunk noise.

also check see if your upper camber arms that they have been fitted the correct way round very easy to fit wrong which will indeed make them hit the arm or inside bracket they are connected to, One side should be adjusted longer than the other and the right way round. A good way to check all this is to remove the arm with the bracket still connected then re-enact the movement it makes to see if any of the bits hit anything. When i first fitted my arms i had this prob and took them off to check, the clamps were hitting the arm along with the hexagonal bolt so i needed new bolts :( So i refit everything and all is good ;) Problems are really amplified when you've lowered the car so much.

will have a look on the rest next weekend if i can. again thanks for your help

btw youl now straight away if the arms are hitting as you will notice the marks on the clamps or where ever.
