Does anyone know much about them?

hi bud, do you have one? how well does it work?

ive not used it personally, but the wife used that company with her last employer to track what staff were doing. it was very accurate as well.

Just looked on their site and it they say its the sim card they track,I take it that if you were in an area with no signal then they cant track you?

That’s the biggest problem, because the trackers work on GPS if the vehicle is in a location with low or no signal at all – the information is very inaccurate.

We’ve just fitted about 2000 vehicles with trackers/Telematics units and it’s a pain in the a$$ when it’s very remote areas.

That was one of the things I liked about the unit I looked at, you can set up an area (geofence)that if it moves out of, it automatically starts sending data so you can track it's last known journey. Obviously this doesn't help if you've parked somewhere where you haven't set up the geofence but I'm pretty certain you could wire it up to automatically send data if the car is moved from any area as it has a motion sensor.

Does anyone actually know of any that will track where it goes, i.e full route?

I really want one but want something reliable otherwise whats the point when someone puts it in a container which gets no signal etc.

I also want it so that if the battery is disconnected it will still keep tracking, i.e. wont just die straight away

you can get the full route - but thats heading more into telematics (as per attached pics)

for a single car, its best to speak to a company like Tracker get one fitted then pay the monthly subscription.

If the battery is disconnected, you are stuffed.

If the battery is disconnected, you are stuffed.

 well thats a lot of good then lol

saying that... I've just asked the techies..... and

The unit is powered by the main vehicle battery. If this is disconnected, a rechargeable back-up battery provides power for up to two days (depending on the type you go for obviously)

So you are not entirely stuffed :D

yes thats true mac, but how many phone networks cant you get anywhere in the world, lol. theres very few places where the network goes, and its only for a short spell. the mobile phone route is the cheapest option for anyone. if the battery is disconnected on the vehicle, then it just runs off a fully charged battery in the phone, which can be from 3-7 days, so all is not lost, plus it gives plenty of time to locate it. ;)

I'm considering one allot further down the line , and had looked at the tracker site , so thanks for the other options and links:D

yeah. i know where your coming from. lol. i prefer either orange or o2, but at the end of the day if you really look into it, regardless of how much you pay for a tracker unit, none of them are perfect as they all can lose the signal, more so than a mobile phone.

I was looking at the site today looks like a good idea how did you wire the charger up i was thinking useing the cigarette holder but would the phone get to hot with it wired that way. seems a cheap way to track the car if someone took it

I have just set up my phone on the followus site with a old phone as per Mario thread .and it said the car was in about 1/4 mile off more or less . its all down to the the phone masts if there are lots like in london then it can bet about 100yard area if in scotland then it can be 10miles area. So if the car is parked and dumped then i would have had a good chance of find it by checking the map area you down load . and driveing up and down the streets so not bad for 15 pound set up. so i would have some type of chance in finding it
