My car is booked in for a clutch change on thursday

But ive just been out in it and im worried weather it will get there or not.

I can barely engage gears, 1st is near to impossible and when i get it in gear its constantly trying to creep forward, as if the pedal isn't all the way in.

Any tips on how to overcome this?

use a trailer or a transporter :)

or you could turn the car off everytime you wanna stop if you have a good battery

hahaha, i find it becomes easier to change gear if i pump the pedal but when i stop it tries to stall, i find i can hold it in second, but it hurts my feet trying to push a hole through the firewall.

hmmm seems along way mate but hopefully when your on the motorway you want have to use the clutchto much all i can say is good luck coz im fresh out of help lol

Drive down the road stop and then phone the AA or similar and say yer stuck ?

Oh and your fluid is okay isn't it ?

yeah, fluid says its fine, i was thinking that too smithy, i do have RAC cover after all, but wouldn't i have to be at least half way there?

Dunno check the policy, with mine in the AA i have to be 2 miles away, yours maybe difefrent.

When you checked the fluid though, was that by looking or removing the cap? as sometimes the latter can be different :)

are you changing the clutch due to this problem?

yeah, because everywhere i read relating to adjustment it says that at one end of the rod adjustment the clutch may not disengage and crunch in gears, like mine does.

Or it may slip in 4th or 5th, which mine did last week.

omg hahahahaha major fail!

The clutch cylinder had a tide mark, the cylinder is empty, bone dry!

When i fill it up, how do i bleed it? doh!

umm disengagment problems normally mean hydraulic problem or clutch fork arm failure.both these can cause crunching. and are very easy to diagnose .

slipping in 4th and 5th are different problems and wont be related to the other issues.

but would indicate clutch wear.

So ot looks like you have two problems mate .

clutch wear and clutch control.

you said the pedal gets better if you pump it. I would bleed the system and it should by you some time to drive to your garage for the total repair . but i suspect it wont be a simple clutch fix mate.

i always open the slave and let it run out for a few sec.s then close then bleed at the master then the wing then the slave. it can take some time bt since you have a little pedal already i would try just bleeding from the wing first mate it may be all you need.

Well thats saved yer a few bob mate, 50 quid will do me thanks :D

Still worth going down for the drive and have the zed checked anyways bud.

And if yo uare slipping in 5th it still could be a worn clutch as well.

does it only slip when worm?

if so when she is hot check under the dash on the clutch pedal and look at the free play on the clutch arm that enters the clutch servo there should be 1mm or so of play on the link rod. the one with the lock nut on it. if theres no free play this may cause the clutch to be held off slightly when hot. if theres play and she still slips. your gonna need a clutch as well .
