It's happened a few times now and lasts for various periods of time. For no reason my zed starts idling erratically between 1500rpm to 2500rpm. The difference when this happens to any other time it does this is that there is a clicking noise from the instrument binnacle area which coincides with the idling. Does anyone know of a relay or something in this area that might cause this problem and noise.

I also have exactly the same problem! Seems to only happen when i have the heaters on, sometimes :-S, its a very intermittent problem. When im sat in traffic people think im revving the engine when im not lol. I dont think ive heard the clicking though but ill listen carefully next time it happens.

The Idle air control valve is the cause of some idling problems, have a look at the link to explain. The IACV-FICD solenoid valve . This solenoid controls the idle when you turn the a/c on. It's basically a step up solenoid which increases the idle to compensate for the drag of the a/c compressor.

Or a leak on a hose. Check all the hoses that come of the balance bar

Thanks for the replies guys. I have to admit i'm aware of the other problems it's just i was wondering if anyone had the clicking from the dash as well. It's does seem to be linked to some of my idle problems..... not all though!

have you got a km to mph convertor behind the dash? It may be the aircon pump turning of and on that you can hear as a clicking. When hunting I have heard this and assumed it wa the aircon pump. Check for air leaks, check your connectors on your PTU and CAS are tight and clean. Check the IACV is working. I'm guessing by the time youve had a look through that lot you will have found the problem. HTH

In the vein of misery loving company, I too have that exact problem with the clicking sound... However I also have a problem with the heater blower not working either.... :headvswal

had a similar sound from my dash after fitting a hid kit.each time i had a click, revs would increase.i traced the clicking to the aiv control solenoid valve which is in the engine bay by the break master cylinder[directly behind your clocks].i never got to the bottom of this problem so maybe you might! best of luck.hope that all makes sense.

The combination of raised revs and clicking points to the hard idle switch on the tps, remove it and clean the contacts.

Ok take a look at the photo below, this is the tps and is fitted on the right hand throttle body as you look at the engine ( passenger side) the unit has a 3 pin connector on a fly lead and a further electrical fixed connection which is the lower of the two in the photo, this is the one you need to disconnect and clean the connector plugged into it ( engine loom side) before you do this and to prove the point, try wiggling the connector whilst the engine is running and it will most likely effect the engine running.

hey, sorry to resurrect this thread but this problem has resurfaced as described above (I own what was borderzed's zed :}), I believe you took care of this when it came into see you Jeff last november, so I'll follow your advice and it will probably sort it out ......

 

but just curious, why does a dodgy connection at the TPS end result in a loud clicking noise from behind the instrument panel? :)
