Hey all

I wnat to loose my active sub and get a good pair of 6.5's in the front that dont need any support from other speakers.

I am looking at a pair of JLAudio C5-650X coaxials or

Focal 165 K2P component speakers

Are these overkill? I want good bass and clear but not harsh treble.

I have an Alpine Head unit and a Phoenix Gold Tantrum 400 X 4 amp which will run the pair.

What do you think?

Hi Mate,

Don't go for the Coaxials. The Z doors are perfect for a set of components.

I am running JL components in my front doors and they are extremely good!! (see my rides section).

However.................................

The focals do have slightly better clarity and are more stable (I have blown up 2 sets of JL' mids).

Best mid range speakers Focal.

Best Subs JL.

Best Amp Genesis.

Shimples!

If you need any advice on the install or want to hear my system, just let me know, I'm only in Ascot.

Which JL's have you got mate? I had TR 6.5's cheapest ones in my S2000 and they were a bit bass lite

Csi's Buddy.

Take a look in my rides section and you can actually see the tweeters installed in the doors!

For that kind of money (£300) the focals are better IMO.

These speakers are mid to high range and you will need to run a sub to get base. Well worth it though.

Andy

You will never get the low end performance from anything except a sub. I have gone for a 10" to save space.

At the mo I have a Blaupunkt active sub, some JBL GTO 6.5 comps in the front and some 4x6 in the back and its a bit bass lite and shiney

I just wanted something that sounded more rounded and musical.

I thin Rockford Fosgate will be best deal ;)

If you dont have a clue what your talking about then yes lol

Crap speakers for the Nova brigade who dont know any better, sorry dude.:duffer:

I am looking at a pair of JL Vr 650csi's and a JL 12 W3 Sub

Will that do the trick?

If you can streach to the JL C5 650's its worth it, but the Vr 650csi get very good reviews.

Which 12W3 sub you going for?

12W3V2-D4

12W3V2-2

12W3V3-2

12W3V3-4

12W3V3-8

They all come out well, just match the right one to your amp.

I have focal components in the front, pair of focal 6x9's in the back (overkill not needed and may sell) and a pair of JL 8" subs. All powered in various ways by 2 hertz amps.

Take a look at the pics. It sounds awesome and really doesnt need anymore at all.

The comps, tweeters flush mounted in the top

Thats awesome mate I'm grateful I went for the csi's and a SH JL12W3 from ebay in a built enclosure. I'll get an amp for it and see how we go.

You should be happy with that ballance mate. I have a 10 inch W3 in mine and it sounds awsome. Make sure you have a decent quality amp to drive it though.

Take a look at the jl audio site and you will find a spec sheet for each sub recomending amp power to drive each one. I'd do the same for the fronts too, if you under power them you can potentially damage them.

plug it in and try it... you might be happy... a pheonix gold 100 would prolly be better than these budget '600amp'... amps :wack:

funkybungyloogy, have you spaced out your door card at the bottom around the speaker? i dont have enough room for an mdf speaker ring on my setup as the speaker wont fit under the door card...

No It fits just fine. What make speakers have you got and how thick a spacer were you trying?

I have Focal K2 Power components in my front doors and they're awsome.

Mind you, they are never going to compensate for a sub.

I'm running mine with 2 x 8" Focals and 1 x 10" Genesis, all in the boot. I also have a set of 100mm Focals in the rears.

I run my K2 Powers off a Genesis series 3 Dual Mono and run the 3 subs off a Genesis series 3 Miniblock. The rear speakers are powered by a Genesis Profile 2 amp, under the passenger seat.

Love my Focal speakers/Genesis amp combination :dance:
