A Bit of help for my boss's PA. She had a problem with her steering and was told to top up the fluid.

When she went to her garage the bloke there said he didn't have any but Auto Transmission oil was the same. She has now put that into the power steering system.

If it is relevant she has a BMW convertible.

Is this OK? I don't know enough about the fluids to answer her but thought there were plenty of people here who would know.

Its my annual appraisal time so if I can help my boss's PA I will get a few brownie points

Possibly the same - is on some, but she'd need to check the service history of the car... mine's supposedly a filled for life gearbox and there's at least 6 variations on spec and they're not necessarily compatible...

did this on my old Vectra worked fine and never needed to actually change it for power steering fluid! it works in the same way lubriacant wise so basically will do the same job the same way as PS fluid but its actually transmission fluid! she will be fine!!
