Hi all,

 

I'm Jazz and my daily driver is a Honda Accord Type R. I'm really loving the 300ZX's at the moment, so much car for reasonably little outlay these days, and I'm looking to get one as a weekend toy in time for summer, they're old-school cool IMO.. :)

 

It will certainly be a Twin-Turbo model preferably manual, I'm also a keen tuning enthusiast so I'll be looking at the different ways to crank that power up (safely and reliably). And if I can get one with a Targa top thats a bonus!

 

So hope you won't mind having a Honda driver snooping around these parts in the name of research and learning about this rare and wonderful model, and hopefully by May/June (or maybe even before then) I should be rolling in one of these things myself.

Welcome! Long Wheel Base Zed's should be hard to find with your requirements!! Beware of BS power outputs on Ebay Zed's as well!! But good luck on your hunt and have fun!

Hey guys, thanks for the warm welcome!

 

I've never really understood why some are LWB and some are SWB, I take it thats the difference between the 2 seat and 2+2 layout, would a TT manual be available in both forms, as thats ideally what I'm after? Targa/convertable is a nice option, but not essential, but it must be a TT manual. Haha excuse my ignorance, I'm a keen motor-head but not particularly clued up about the 300ZX...

2+0 = SWB. 2+2 = LWB.

 

ALL LWB models are Targa tops.

 

Some SWB modela are Targa roof, however there is a rare solid roof model called a slick top.

 

Japanese cars are available in every variation, SWB, LWB, auto, manual, TT, N/A - mix and match lol

 

There is also a rare convertible zed - that is N/A only tho - unless it has had a TT lump dropped in.

So Uk cars are to be avoided? What do the JDM models have which prevents rust then which the UK models lack?

And Jap cars have been in sunny Japan all their life, thats what they have over UK zeds :dance: So aslong as it was'nt imported about 10 years ago then it should be pretty much rust free :nana2:

Imported cars generally havn't been subjected to the uk's salty roads. So if theory the later the car was imported the less rust it will have.

 

But some zeds have been properly under seeled by their owners anyway so this isn't always an issue

Ah yes, I wonder why I didn't think of that, true our roads are quite salty, I just had no idea they had that much of an impact to UK cars vs JDM cars.

Dude will you stop going on about avoiding UK ZEDS, its really starting to annoy me now, every post that comes up 'avoid uk zeds'. Not all UK Zeds are rusty!!!! :mad:

Quite a bold statement there are plenty of fine UK examples out there just they are more prone to rust but i wouldnt cancel them out of your search!! (coming from an Import owner aswell)

 

You seem to have twisted Murts nipples with this statement too :p

Don't get your knickers in a twist - i say it cos i had bad experiences with EVERY UK zed i went to see!

It is true that jap ones are less rust free, but some UK ones if they have been looked after are just as good. Mine is a 94 UK TT Manual, only has a slight bubble of one of the rear arches, an easy fix, underneath is rust free and it passed it last MOT first time. Plus late series UK ones have heated and electric drivers / passenger seats. Mine was a total bargain,

View differnt styles and versions of both japs and UK, some are amazing, some ok, some bad and then some are awfull. If they state they have 400bhp, unless proof as a roling road dyno sheet and receipts, be aware.

mine has been really well looked after, with what i have done to mine myself, would cost others that couldnt do it themselves well over 10k
