Hey all,

Need a new backbox as one of mine has a hole in it and i figured i may as well get a whole new catback system.

Im not bothered about performance gains im just after a nice sound really.

Been looking at the japspeed one (available for around £300) and was wondering if it was any good sound wise? the only other one i can find is the mongoose one but people dont seem to recommend mongoose really.

Any suggestions or linkys would be appreciated :)

The mongoose system is excellent, a lot of people on here (including myself) have them. It will free up a few horses and has a nice burble to it without being overly loud.

cool, i would prefer the mongoose system as it has the twin tailpipes rather than the 4" jap style slash.

Is it louder than standard? (i think the standard exhaust is far too quiet for my liking)

Yeah, it's louder than stock but isn't excessive.

cool, sounds ideal for what im after then. thanks :)

One more question, the japspeed advertises a "balancing mixer" on the center section before the backboxes for a "true v6 roar", am i right in assuming pretty much all zx style exhausts will have this otherwise it will just sound like a 3 cylinder engine on both sides lol.

Not sure mate, mine are separate from each other. Don't worry though it still sounds like a proper V6 TT .

mines NA but will hopefully sound like a proper V6 NA lol. With the hole in the exhaust at the moment its sounding more like a badass v8, cant stop driving it through tunnels and narrow streets lol.

I know what you mean mate. My Vectra GSi was cracking and popping when I changed gear and put me foot down, I thought it sounded great! Turns out I ripped the arse out of my centre section.. lol

i got my japspeed cat back from 2fast2cool on e-bay. excellent item, good sound and it comes with an X pipe. H pipe, IIRC does not offer a better flow rate. all for £275 + postage, bargain!!

HTH

al.

vvv see my pic below vvv

i had a japspeed one on my old z, it didn't sound loud when it was new but after it bedded it was really really basey.

And it burbles on idle but not so much when driving.

And no, most systems are two systems that dont mix

^^ yea thats they system im looking at on ebay lol. just not sure about the jap style cans.

I remember when my primera's exhaust fell off just after the engine manifold, i had to drive 200 miles home with an engine that i dare say was 3 times over the legal sound limit for anything, it was a painful journey home and was suprised i didnt get stopped. Still was an awesome sound for a 4 cylinder engine lol.

i've got a vectra gsi aswell! :) my flexi broke on the exhaust so its was straight out the manifolds basically! now that was an awesome sound, bit loud though! lol

anyway, back on topic. My Zeds got SE straight through pipes from the turbos back with scorpion back boxes on. Both run seperate to each other, but still has V6 roar. Im not sure whether or not the pipes being connected actually makes a differance to sound or performance or not though? They are quite loud apparently, but i wouldn't say excessive.

Spose it depends on how loud you want it really though?

HTH

they're a good buy, top quality and perfect fit.

Note: shayne linch from boyzone drives for their drifting team lol

lol..No mate. Whatever system you want is entirely up to you. They all sound good on a zed..lol

yes it matters that they mix bud.

otherwise you only have 3 cyliners firing into each exhaust

actually it doesnt matter .

divorced systems work really well

especially on an NA.;)

thats fine on a turbo driven car where the turbos help exhaust gas expusion . On an NA you need a low pressure expansion box nearer the engine to assist gas speed, especially at lower revs. Failure to have on in the system will reduce power output at the lower end of the rev range when gas speeds are low.

I put the Japspeed one on mine just recently and am very happy with it. As said already, when I first put it on, it was a quiet, but then when I got on to driving the car around, wearing in the exhaust abit, it has started to get heavier. The burble is there on idle. Loud exhausts tend to do your head in after some driving or when driving all the time with that sound. The sound of this system is just right all around in my opinion..:)

Was talking about the V6 burble ;)

I would recommend the japspeed system aswell, mine came fitted on the car when i bought it.It isnt to loud but sounds lovely when flooring it and ive had so many comments about how nice it sounds!

Ordered the japspeed one today and it should arrive tomorrow. Is it easy to fit? eg could i do it in a matter of hours with minimal tools or would i need to get a garage to fit it?

Mine took about 30mins altogether. Its pretty straight forward putting it on. You can do it yourself if you have the right tools which let you get under the car but I would recommend you take it to a garage where they can put it on the ramp, lift it up and get under it and do the job properly..:)
