When I press the button in to clean my windscreen, after the wipers have done there bit.. they often return to the centre of my windscreen, rather than going back down out the way... it really annoys me and i have to press it in a few times by which stage the windows have smeared or ive used 2 litres of washer fluid in the process.. how can this be fixed?

i'm not a Z expert but have you listened to make sure its not a fault with the wiper mechanism? as in the mechanism of bars that connect the wipers to the motor?

 

Its not happened to me on my Z yet, but two 200sx's ive had, the mechanism failed when under wind/rain load - as in they would stay in middle of screen and would not function... this was down to the mechanism connecting cups (plastic) being worn.

 

I might be miles off the mark but thouight I would mention it.

they still function perfectly fine and in that i mean they dont make annoying noises or noisey motor sounding noises, and it doesnt matter whether im driving or parked up. if i press the button for " a quick squirt" lol.. they do the wiping motion, then it's like hit or miss whether they return to normal or stiay on the windscreen... I don't get it! lol - but it's seriously annoying

Maybe a bad earth somewhere causing it. Ah the joy of Jap cars lol :)

There is an addition circuit in the wiper motor which keeps power on to park the wipers after the switch has been cancelled.

 

Some time the small track that is responsible for this can be cleaned to get it working again, sometimes it is easier to replace the motor with a known good one.

 

Have a look at the motor under the windscreen scuttle panel ( the longer one) it has a small access plate on it, this is where the aformentioned circuit is located.

mine does the exact same then you have to press it again to get it back to the bottom, iv just got used to it now lol

it happens whenever you use them, either as a push button clean or if I have knocked the switch to have them on constant, as soon as you turn them to "off" or when they are on there way back down towards the bottom of the window.. they do like an extra cycle then head back up and stay in my view on the windscreen, not always in the same place.. it's like the timing is out..? if that makes sense.. thanks for input so far guys

The very same thing happened to my Primera, it' s a well known fault with them. Replaced the wiper motor (£7.51 inc. postage on Ebay) and all is well again :D
