March 7, 200916 yr Is upgrading to a stand alone ECU unit from a chipped one worth it!! Had some prices at £1400-1500 (Thor Racing, TDI North) fitted and mapped. Would i get anymore power with a stand alone one??? What do you guys think? :nana2:
March 7, 200916 yr If your on standard tubs, injectors...etc then I would'nt bother. You can get the standard ECU remapped on a rolling road instead if your want to have it mapped for your exact vehicle, John Dixon is the man to speak to about it. When your looking at 500hp+ then the advantages of a Map sensor and greater programming control plus more places able to map it become an advantage.
March 8, 200916 yr also with stand alones like AEM it comes with 2 stage launch control , traction control , nitrous wet / dry multi stage maps etc etc , built in turbo timers all sorts of goodies so they have advantages even for the normal or slightly tweaked cars ...
March 8, 200916 yr These stand alone systems always look good on paper. but in real terms they always seem to be flawed in some way. as they tend to be for race trim engines . so you can lose the refinment that you get with the stock unit. if its a road car id chip your stock ecu. daz
March 8, 200916 yr im running an AEM on my every day zed, its far smoother now with the power delivery than it ever was with the stock ecu. ;)
