Ive just got a Blazt cable and i'm running it on win xp via a pci express 2 serial and have tried several of the free programs that it supports namely OBD scantech, Datascan, and ecutalk, the comport is installed ok but the only program that works properly is ecutalk this displays all the gauges properly in real time no delays or anything but when i try to use scantech or datascan when it queries it just seem to either load the cpu to 100% or quit completely.

So this tells me that the com port is working fine if ecutalk can get data ok but i cannot workout whats going wrong with the other 2 programs obviously i dont want to fork out for a datascan licence if it wont work with this converter :headvswal

Anyone got any ideas, I guess i could get a serial laptop but this still doesnt explain why ecutalk works fine though.

it could be the timeouts or similar used in the programs. try the free version of conzult also

Free conzult works fine also, so it must be an issue with those programs.

Did you change the settings on Datascan? Remember everytime you put the USB lead in another USB port, the port number changes... If no luck pm me your number ill help over the phone

Its a pci express jobby that plugs into the new style laptop slots, so not using a usb port as such but it does appear in device manager as a Prolific usb to serial device, i've matched the com ports in datascan and set the comport settings to what it says on the datascan site, it kinda works in that if you have the wrong port it says not found, changing it to the right one it sees the ecu but it just hangs the cpu at 100%, it will find the ecu's when I do a search too, put then i can't click anything everythings greyed out and I have to end task it.

Oh i never knew they made pci-e one :S

Link me were you brought it bud

its one of these, odd that the conzult and ecutalk works though isnt it?

Very strange, maybe they use a different type of data transfer, or I wonder if datascan needs more buffer in order to work correctly.

Did you try lowering the settings to see if that made a difference?

yeah tried various buffer settings, hardware/software modes. I take it datascan should run ok on XP? I'm not desperate to get it working ecutalk will show most of the sensors but doesnt really have any diag features.

Datascan is made for XP it will work perfect on it, im guessing you have a proper blitz cable and you didnt buy it from ebay, because i know my cable comes from ebay and it doesnt work with datascan etc, only ecu talk etc programs

Where do you get the free consult programs??

really u can do all u need with the free programs. ecutalk for gauges/logging/fauts (esp as it has economy gauges that other sw doesnt), tecu has active tests (see if it works for you). calumsult has rom dumping, free conzult has the base idle test thing

Cheers Murt, another question is what does everyone mean by a 'serial laptop'? Not to good with techy stuff lol.:headvswal Also do the progams work with vista??

Cheers

the majority do work in vista

a serial laptop is a laptop with a serial port. a serial port has 2 rows of pins, 9 pins (its male on the laptop). not to be confused with the blue 15 pin 3 row VGA connector.

most laptops made in last few years dont have a serial port.
