If by any chance your trying to match them ....... good luck! we had a major nut bolt and fixings company look in to this and came up with zero.

 

The dimentions are unique to that particular bolt it would seem Nissan had them made especially for them, hence why they are so flipping expensive!

I dont know the dimensions or thread, but I am using a non oem set in mine. Local company found a match, and cut them down to the correct length.

As I said made especially for Nissan, cutting down a high tensile bolt will reduce its tensile value by default, so you might as well fit some from your local B&Q DIY centre, I am sure Nissan went overboard with the spec on them but then they were building it to a very high quality.

 

Many aftermarket parts have done nothing to enhance the astetics of the body design and in many ways detract from the original way too much, but that is personal choice.However fitting lower grade or spurious mechanical parts is in my view a step too far, where do you stop?

 

Try selling your car and add into the description well looked after but too tight to buy correct bolts, no problem just fitted cut down ones from B@Q and just watch them buyers run for the hills.

To be fair tho jeff, those are high tensile, they only make that thread in HT, and buying the correct length in the first place means no cutting, so no probs ;-)

 

I refuse to be completely and utterly ripped off from nissan if avoidable, when they will be definately buying them for an absoloute fraction of the retail price they give to us, pulling our pants down and giving us a good old spank on the buttocks. I bought 2 tiny rubber suspension bushes for a micra, nothing special about them, 60 quid each, ridiculous, could not get them from anywhere else, and I would only fit any mechanical non-nissan part if I knew it was as good or better than OEM.

 

So nerrr.... :-) :-)

As long as you get 12.9 grade you'll be fine. Namrick will probably have them on the shelf with cap head.

They are a M10 1mm Metric fine thread, I'm buying some from http://www.namrick.co.uk/browse.asp?PCID=9 about 80p each, or just as cheap.... HTH...

Those are 8.8 tensile bolts not 12.9 as stated by JD

 

It DOES make a big difference!

 

12.7 are 'fully' high tensile if you will. You cant get a stronger pin than that. 8.8 is fairly mediocre IMO and I wouldn't use them as flywheel bolts lads.

Escort diesel flywheel bolts are high tensile and the same thread im sure.Can check tomorrow if its any help.8.8s are a major no no for stressed components.

I have no problem fitting non-gen parts as long as they are equal/better than stock.

No one likes to pay to much money for stuff.

But remember this nissan and other manufacturers spend millions of pounds in development cost to design and build these great cars we drive.

So if you want quality and reliable parts.

Buy gen and dont penny pinch.

If nissan had penny pinch when building the Z how long would they have lastest?

Yeah, that does kind of make sense, but they have re-cooped their R&D costs a thousand times over, and their prices (and it's the same for many other car manufacturers too, I'm not just on about Nissan) don't reflect that... ;-)

 

It's just a bit of a bummer, when we are all feeling the pinch at the moment, and because of extortionate prices on parts, I can't get my beloved car on the road, does my head in! Shouldn't be like that (in a perfect world anyways...)

 

Anyways, my Uncle is cheif engineer at Manchester University, so he's gonna sort me some out, at least as good as original, hopefully....

 

I'll put my soap box away now and shut up for a while :-)

It's the price you pay for specialty parts I'm afraid. It cost me $22 (around £7) per bolt for a high tensile (grade 12.9) countersunk cap screw 12x1.25 mm, and that is a standard bolt not specifically manufactured for a purpose.

I have no concerns about the bolts I fitted. 12.9 Tensile steel. It was'nt so much about cost but availability at the time, but its true that £80 for a set of bolts is daylight robbery.

 

Every part fitted to my car is either genuine or better, and since the car has been rebuilt by me from a bare shell pretty much every single bolt, nut and washer has been replaced on the entire car.

I have no concerns about the bolts I fitted. 12.9 Tensile steel. .

My Uncle just said that worldwide, the standard is to stamp on the top of any bolt if it's HT, the grade, and my flywheel bolts have no stamp on, which to him says they aren't anything 'that' special, which is a bit weird, and he really does know his onions, he part built that 10 mile long particle accelerator thingy in sweden, but i bet it wasn't as hard as re-buildin a Zed tho, haha... His opinion was that 8.8's would be fine, taking into account the power of the car, number of bolts and the length and surface area of the bolt head. A simple 'yes' would've been ok...

 

Anyways, it's on hold for a mo, see if anyone comes up with a source for em on here, can't imagine 8 HT bolts shearing off when ya put ya foot down, wouldn't really want to find out tho...
