I need help lol. I realise (obviously)it isnt a BMW forum, but the ones i asked on were, well, crap. No help at all. Anyhoo My BMW has a trip computer and every time i switch it comes up with a message, "Check control status" then "see owners manual" seeing as i got it from a local garage to fix up, all the books except the one i needed was there:headvswal

Anyone know what to do?

This isn't an answer to your question (sorry), but M5BOARD.COM is usually quite a helpful forum and the answer to your problem might already be on a topic somewhere. Good luck with the answer though!

What model of BMW is it? I assume its an E36.

The check control feature is basically a series of self tests on the ancilary systems in the car, bulbs, brake light circuit, washer fluid level that kind of thing So its not strictly nessacery.

There are lots of things which could cause it to show "check control status" either a dead sensor, or maybe none check control rear lights on a check control car. OR somone has fitted an on board computer to a none wired up car. ( i.e started retrofitting it and never finished)

dont know if its any use but i had a smiliar problem with my old bmw it was the rear lights, someone had put non check control lights in a check control car or something like that, meant i had to run a wire from one light to other to fool it.

That is most likely the answer as i fitted a set from a 318 (mines a 325I SE) and im pretty sure they (318s) arent check control cars.

Oh and it is an E36

Could easily be that then, check control was available on all E36's, 316 right through to the M3 Evo.

Best thing to do is look at http://www.e36coupe.com and have a butchers in there, there will be a fix and which wires to bridge to return no resistance for the light modules. Or get some check control enabled lights.

Anything else we can help u with?? I have an M3 Evo atm and have had another E36 in the past (323i Coupe) so seem most of the stupid things which go wrong on em!
