I'm looking at buying a UK zed but it has some rust issues.

Are these fixable? If so roughly how much would I be looking at to get it all fixed? Or should I just walk away?

As always any advice is appreciated.

Cheers

Dave

i wouldnt pay 2k for that! the welding on the sills alone would cost a small fortune! the rust near the suspension strut is quite bad and with rust the more you dig the more you find!!

£800 max then break it for parts.

Is it that bad then?

the sills rot from the inside out. once you remove the outer skin you have two inner skins which would have rotted away too. these will also have to be cut out to good metal and replaced to maintain the structural rigidity. if the car is that bad just in the places you can see i would hate to get it up on a set of ramps!!

ive done all f that on mine, sills were a nightmare, the strut top was easy, at 2k i would run a mile

p.s, its abviousely a uk model lol

Yes mate! lol

Thanks for that folks, i'll be walking away then.

save some more cash and buy a car that has had it all done and more (mine lol)

oh and run, not walk away lol

Unless there is something very special about the rest of the car , walk away. At the prices these cars go for these days its just not worth the time or money repairing it. That car is destined to be broken for parts.

The Sills have most likely rotted from the inside out (targa drain holes).

Unfortunately that's a common occurrence with UK cars, not so much of a problem with Imports as they haven't been subjected to so many years of our winters and salty roads.

unless like me, you can do it all for free,

As mentioned earlier they would be better 2k cars out there, unless it has something worth it (forged internals or along those lines).

It's pretty standard apart from the skyline like rear lights (which I was going to change back anyway!) apart from that judging by the pictures I've seen it looked very straight and tidy and is a '93 manual with full leather interior.

But, I agree with what people have said; If that's the rust you can see, how bad is the rust you can't.

Oh well, keeping looking I suppose :(

For that kind of money walk away. unless you can do the job yourself it will cost an arm and a leg. what you are seeing there is only the tip of the iceberg so to speak!

The bloke has come back to me and offered to get the rust sorted so it will pass an MOT.

He thinks it's going to cost around £120 for the work.

He might get the holes welded up but it could still be rotten inside and come through again soon.

Thats what I was thinking! Not good enough for my liking.

Why buy a uk model  Mine is a 1991 jap import that has been in this country for 3 years and has not got one spot of rust on it even underneath :D I just dont get it :smash:

£2000 grand for that rust bucket.Run for your life.Have a look in the for sale section i'm sure you will find something there ;)

Reason I want a UK one is Insurance is a lot cheaper. I've got a Jspec zed (rust free!) but wrote it off in Jan this year. Because I'm being held "at fault" at the moment import insurance will cost me a fortune.

Have you tried to get insured on a Jap one again?? I'm only paying £370 on a classic policy so I'm not using my no claims bonuses
