Well the other week the two heads arrived from the states along with a stupid bill for £250 import duty and the shipping was miscalculated so i ended up picking up the £120 excess on that too but all in all got the heads and roller rockers for £950 all in which is still a saving.

Now the annoying part, the springs have been uprated to high lift crower ones, the head's been machined and they've been fitted already, only problem is the roller rockers he's sent aren't for the studs on the head. They're 3/8" instead of 7/16" (smaller diameter holes)

Now if i were a skinflint i'd just change the bolts but as there's a good chance at high revs that these could bend and wreck the engine so against what i was originally intending on i'm going for solid roller cam and lifters with uprated pushrods which will give it a bit more a buzzy top end.

Match that with the carb which arrived in the post today with a slightly different take on mechanical secondaries and the engine isn't going to be quite what i was intending but hey ho the more power the better and that free-er higher revving delivery should be quite good fun as opposed to the hardcore grunty bottom end i was planning.

Unfortunately the problem i've got now is after paying my tax bill, the import duty etc and now i have to find 700 quid to refill my gas cylinder at the back of the house so all in all i'm broke again and just as i was about to get the engine down to the engineering shop things have cropped up :(

Ah well another couple of months and i might be back on track... i hope!

very impressed with the project mate but can i imput my thoughts if you dont mind....going back when i ran my 77 trans-am and a couple of sbc motors those mech secondries are are nightmare on the street, the transition to the secondries is sooooo much smother with vac and you dont get the small but very noticeable hesitation when you plant the foot...also its a shame your not sticking with the hydro lifters as again if its spending a lot of time on the street then reaching high rpm to utilise solids is going to give you about 7-10 mpg combined with the mech sec carb and from my point of view owning and enjoying a big V8 is producing peak power low down with bottom end grunt that could pull a house down..but whichever road you go down ime sure its going to be fantastic and look forward to the end result:)

Ah now i knew you'd say that , the edelbrock carb is a hybrid and suprisingly economical for what it is.

Basically it has a vacuum secondary crossed with a mechanical secondary which gives a smooth transition of the vacuum and also the welly of a mechanical. I did my research on this :D Plus it only cost me £150 :hyper:

I can't find the article but it explained it a bit better: "The mechanical secondary air velocity valve sense air flow according to demand and automatically regulates a smooth transistion from part throttle to wide open throttle."

Off secondary the economy is supposed to be not that far off the original carbs.

I was planning on hydraulic lifters with a mild cam but because of the springs it's either going to cost me money to convert them back or i pay more to get the solid lifter setup, hey ho.

I also have two intakes to pick from that should give me some choice

keep up the good work and the updates:bow::bow:

Cheers buddy :D Always nice to have some encouragement :)

Next update should be when i get the block back from the engineering shop from its boring, honing, decking and dipping :D

Good news, i've just agreed with Exhausts UK in sheffield to build the complete system 3" custom polished stainless manifolds with electronic cutouts before the boxes :D

This thing is going to sound immense  Plus it means on the main road i can opt for a really quiet box for the back so it's not too intrusive on long distances then flick a switch and all hell breaks loose :hyper:

You'll love the bypass, it's awesome!

Did you try Leon for the manifolds and stuff, his prices are pretty good.

I would have done but I had to do 2 divisional sites for exhausts uk anyway and the last system they made was very high quality. It's £1500 worth of exhaust for a couple of weekend's work so can't complain too much. All done in T304 grade stainless steel so should last longer than the bodyshell

I just thought i'd be frustrated if i didn't get to hear that lovely 6.3 breath properly at the pod but i'd also be frustrated if it didn't pass its mot or annoyed me on a long drive. Best of both worlds!

I'm looking at the Quicktime Performance ones with the pipe already adapted and a tip mounted up. What make is yours?

Mine are QTP too. Quality seems good. I'd get the electronic controller too if I were you then you can set them to any opening you want.

Yep, that's exactly what i was planning on doing, the whole setup with the valves and controller will be about £400-500 but i think it'll be worth it down the drag track and the occasional "off road" use

Hurry up Nick!-:p

So what heads are they?-Edelbrock? and is that carb used?

You will need to get a jet/needle kit for it to be set up right(ask Suzy!)

Are the rocker studs screw-in?(should be if Edelbrock)

OH!-and go for the ARP bolt set for head etc, well worth the cash!;)

Keep em' coming dude!:D

They're edelbrock performer rpm heads buddy, they've had uprated crower high lift springs fitted and titanium retainers. Yeah the carb is used but has basically sat in its box since the guy bought it and decided to go a different route. It doesn't smell of petrol so it must have been standing some time. I'm going to take it to someone with a rolling road who has experience tuning chevy engines and carbs with the jets in stock who can set it up properly. I do want to learn myself but i think i could probably save a huge amount of time letting someone in the know get the car just right.

Yep the studs are the screw in type:

ARP bolts hmmm, you mean these ones? :D
