Anyone know what might cause it not to work.

What wire might it be etc.

The mileage one isn't turning either

Is your speedo working? If not, it's most likely to be your speed sensor on the gear box, common fault, easy fix too, just one bolt and easy to get to. Here's a link to a thread with a picture of it's location...

They ain't too cheap, but I have one which I am sure works, (for an auto, box was playing up, so hardly have driven the car, and speedo worked fine), yours for 25 quid delivered... PM me matey, hope this helps...

Has it ever worked? (stupid question, but when I bought mine, it had been superglued up so it wouldn't turn!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :-O

It does have a little electric motor on the odometer itself, you can see this and replace the unit (as I did, from one from a scrappers) but ya have to remove the whole speedo/clock assembly to get to it, and there's probably a way to test it too, but not sure what, think it has about 4 wires on the plug, i would've thought 2 of these at least would be power to it, i.e. a means to test it, other than mate, dunno!

Hey mate when mine stopped working it was mechnaical fault withe the odo itself just stopped moving. I took it out and cleaned it up and it still didnt work so I stuck in another one and hey presto, its worked! No cables, all electronics on the Z check the back of the gauge cluster to ensure no loose or damaged plugs or damaged plastic circuit board. This must end up with some cogs ultimately, so check that the moving parts are free if you dare to delve deeper.

Well what happened was I had jap clocks in and they didn't seem to be working. So today I have put my uk clocks in and turned it to read the same mileage as the other one was in kms. Again though nothing.

There is 1 loose wire but I don't think its ever been connected to anything.

Al- got her on Tuesday bud. Just haven't got round to putting a post up

You say you turned it to read the same mileage. Do you mean you adjusted the cogs? If so you my not have them lined up correctly or have 1 cog not touching the wheel

I got them as close to straight as I could get them but ill pull it apart and try again lol.

I think ill drive it to check its working befor putting it back together. But seems strange both the odometer and mileage counter are broke bothe miles counter on the lap one too

they both work from the same rod that turns the cogs, i have one apart here to look at, if one wheel is slightly out then the rest wont turn too easily.

I will have a quick play and see if i can get them to do it.

Hey mate what do you mean by changing the blocks? did you mean clocks?

I did mine just recently and the only thing I noticed that was different was a screw that is in a different place on the circuit board at the back which I guess tells it that the clocks are in miles

if the motor doesn't spin it could be gummed up with dust etc. i had a faulty motor and i sprayed wd40 into it while turning it and a load of shit came out! dried it off etc and replaced it and it has worked ever since.
