Going to the train station yesterday morning and the road that leads to the car park is a down hill, old cobbled road still which was covered with snow and ice, as soon as i pulled in the car went sideways and accelerated down the hill, at the bottom i met up with a solid square tubular steel post!!

The post hit the passenger door, which is now near V shaped (i think this is just the skin as the door card hasn't moved), crushed the sill, smashed the passenger window and bent the rear wishbone as the wheel hit the curb around the post. I can't afford to shell out for repairs (don't know if it's structurally sound or not) so had to call the insurance. They're meant to be collecting the car today.

The reason i'm posting is this, if the car is structurally sound and it is written off due to the cost of the repairs would anyone be interested in it if they offered me the car back? The engine is sound atleast, completely stock and makes boost fine. If so then i'd probably buy it back and sell it on (as is) for not much at all. I don't have the room to break/store the car so if there was no interest and they offered it me then i would just refuse, but i feel it would be a shame to let it go to waste, as mentioned the engine is sound, the interior is sound it looks to me like it may just be panel and wishbone damage but i'm no mechanic so can't be certain.

This isn't a for sale thread per say as i don't even know if it's a write off so just trying to find out all the options but apologies if it comes across that way.

Cheers

Sorry to hear about the accident, i take it your in good health though?

Buy it back and break it for spares, is the only way your going to get even a little bit of money for it. However, i doubt you'll get any real cash for selling it as a damaged car for someone else to break, otherwise they wont make any money for the hard work they put in breaking the car.

(Bear in mind, i sold my TT Manual in good condition for £1570 as a running car with tax and MOT) THey ainy worth much at all at the moment.

I am cheers pal, it's kicked my Fibrositis off but that is an existing condition that i'm used to dealing with! no other issues with me :)

My only problem with breaking it is the lack of space and time. i was thinking of passing it on for a few hundred quid, that way someone gets a running engine for less than the usual price plus alot of spares that could be pulled from the car and it just adds a bit of cash to the shite amount that i could see the insurance offering.

I'm realistic about it in the sense that i can't see them offering me more than £1500 if that, i was looking to put it up for sale at about £2500 in the next couple of weeks :(

If you want to retain the car if written off I would be inclined to not let the car go out of your possession as that is a no no, get the assessor to come to your home.

They often winge they want to see it on a ramp etc but believe me thats mostly not the case.

If it takes longer than a few weeks to resolve the place it gets taken to will charge so much storage you will never get it back.

Always keep possession of your car in these circumstances is my advice.

ah they're collecting it later/tomorrow morn, to be honest Jeff i can't be arsed with the hassle as mentioned above i have no space or time to do anything with it afterwards,

i just thought it would be a shame to see the engine and gear box if nothing else go to waste, as it seems spot on, i haven't had it on a Conzult but it seems to pull great and the people that have seen it said it's in very good condition. The reason for the post was if someone said "i'll give you £300 quid for it if you get to retain it" then i would have kept it (if that was an option) but they would have had to collect near immediately on me getting the go ahead from LV (on a trailer as it wont drive straight due to the wishbone being bent, otherwise the salvage firm are collecting it for LV and it's bye bye Zed.

Cheers for the advice though mate.

The car has just been collected by a company called copart http://www.copart.co.uk/ insurance said they are salvage firm but looking at their website it looks like they sell alot on. Anyway if anyone is interested they should have a white uk spec tt Zed reg no K445CBA that has a fully working and well running engine and manual gear box if anyone whats to try and chase it down!

I am now officially Zedless

i deal with copart. bought some cat d cars from them. they put the cars onto a web site auction then if you win you can collect the car your self or they can deliver for you at a price. some of the cars i bought have been real bargins.

you have to become a member to see the cheap one they only put the expensive ones on the main page. last year i bought a 1998 toyota supra tt man with a cat d on it for 700 pound it had been keyed down the drivers door. anyway when i got it all it needed was a new batt. still had 5 months mot on it and it went like stink. sold it for 2500. what a bargin. there was nothing else wrong with it. yes it is a gamble what you bid on as you do not know if it has mot or not. but i only go for the cat d.

How much do they charge you for their 'registration fee' and annual renewal mate? They don't mention it until you have given them all your details it seems...

Was thinking it would be worth picking something up as a project to get back on the road or maybe even a Zed for spares...

they charge £30 per year, check the pics. you might be able to see the number plate sometimes so you can see if it still has mot or not. check with the dvla or vosa. if you win the car and pay straight away you do not pay for storage.

Wow that is a bargain!

I took the zed half a mile to the tyre shop to get my wheels changed and it snaked its way there even with the traction coltrol on! Zeds and snow dont mix unless it a very big car park.

I've thought about it a fair bit before actually because I drive past the Copart in Sandy every day! Seen a few nice cars go in there too. There was a Ferrari 355 taken in a while back, mint condition apart from the front nearside quarter...

Shame you aren't closer to me OneShot - I'd have gone to have a look at your Zed if it was at my local one. It's a real shame that you've lost it though mate, I really feel for you :(
