They claim they can at least double the speed of your modem !

Anybody use one, do they work, does it fry the modem?

Before i buy one, or download one.

nah its crap unless you are using a 28.8k modem and flash it to 56k,

 

if you want speed get ADSL or Cable internet. You won't regret it.

It is impossible for a modem to go past its baud rate. A 56k modem will not be able to go past its designed speed. Infact its damn near impossible to get it working at 100% of its speed.

There may be ways with hardware but I can not see how any software can make your modem go faster.

What they do is to use the "spare" time when you are not actually requesting pages to pre-fetch the pages linked from the page you are looking at before you click on the links.

 

So your modem is kept 100% busy fetching pages and stuffing them on your HDD on the off-chance you are about to click on the link that refers to them.

 

As the guys say, don't waste time - go ISDN, ADSL or cable or satellite instead.
