okay you lot, the new server is almost ready to go.

 

but, first of all, i want to run some ideas by you, and get a bit of feedback

 

1) All of the new forums will be empty to start with. I will import GENERAL, TECHNICAL and EVENTS into an archived section of the new board, which will be read only, when i have got some support feedback on the next part....

 

2) The only user accounts that will be created on the new board will be subscribed members. All others will have to register themselves again. The reason for this is because it is the quickest/easiest way to remove all of the old users, aliases, mistakes.

 

3) Have a think about the User Titles that you want. IE, junior member, member, etc., etc and how many posts before you change up..

 

the 200sx guys use flamespitter, flamethrower, unleaded user, etc...

 

the supra guys use newbie, member, advanced member, etc..

 

4) The rides section will be uneditable for a while until i add some hacks/features that are available, or i write them myself. All existing rides files will be carried over and linkable in the same place though.

Personally IMHO blah blah blah it would be nice if the "User Titles" went on how long you have been a member and not how many posts you have made.

 

Is this possible? What do others think?

 

Otherwise all the others sound great and I especially like number 2 to get rid of all the bollox membership numbers.

I do like the idea of the date joined, but obviously there will be a big rush at the beginning, so why not just stick with the number of posts and the current rules for junior etc.

 

And how has Van subscribed already ?

How about titles to do with what stage you should be up to with the Z depending on how many posts you have.

 

Like 1-100 posts. Title is Bought your Z.

Then stuff like painted calipers

Installed Induction

Larger wheels

New Exhaust

Chipped ECU

You know things like that, ones like Blown Engine, siezed turbos ones where you brake the car but only have them last 50 or so posts.

Some thing like TT.net have but you dont see thiers unless you look at thier profile.

Great idea Stuart! Only thing is it might be tricky for people to tell the progression If that's the case, a more boring alternative could be:

Stock -> Stage I -> Stage II .... etc

 

I'm not too bothered about whether its based on join-date or post-number, though as another circa 2000 person I'd lean towards it being decided by date

 

I think it should go on posts and that once you're over 3K posts for every 1K posts you make you get a 500 squid 300zx.co.uk gift voucher off Craig!!! ROFL

Why don't you make people junior members and give them five or ten free posts. After that they need to pay up and become members.

 

You could check their IPs to see that they don't just keep changing names.

Dial up people get a new IP every time they log on.

Also the server here doesnt record the IP of broadband individual users. It records the IP of thier local server.

Well I reckon ordinary members should just have the current user titles, and the subscribed members should be 'subscribed member' but have the option to have a custom title enabled.

Why not be radical!

 

Give out the titles not by posts or joining date but by how much work someone puts into the forum.

 

i.e. if they are very helpful and answer lots of questions they get an advanced title. If they are a newbie and ask mostly questions they stick on the basic title.

 

These could be given out by craig and reviewed every so often..

 

I dont care what the titles are as along as they are amusing or useful..
