tonight whilst pulling out from my local petrol station the smell of the dreaded clutch plate and extremely high bite point tells me i am in need of a new one, has anyone recently bought one and how much an i expected to pay?

I have been quoted £190 for a borg and beck clutch + £120 to fit it, the fitting price is the same but are there any other makes of clutches out there.

How much is the standard nissan Twin Turbo clutch kit as power will remain approximatly standard. cheers "T"...........

p.s. Its an import tt91.

I ended up paying £450 for a clutch - fitted and inc vat. Lot of money but worth getting it done properly. Make sure you get your rear main seal done at the same time - part about £20 but labour if it goes afterwards=tremendous!!!! ;)

Standard Nissan jobby. Looking back I would have got an uprated one - I can still smoke mine on over-excited take offs! Apparently the clutch wasn't designed for that sort of driving - why the f@#k did they give the car 300bhp and a clutch that couldn't take a bit of a hammering then???? It doesn't take that much to make it smell!!!

As far as the high bite point goes, the clutch is hydraulic so should be self adjusting - hence the bite point should always be the same (I could be wrong here - correct me if this is the case guys). The best way to tell if the clutch is going is to go into fifth gear and nail the throttle - if the revs climb but the speed doesn't the clutch has gone to a better place! If not then who knows....

Good luck (£450 is a lot of money - about the same as an ecu upgrade!)

i bought a remanufactured one cant remember the make but it had nissan stamp in it and i fit it my self the clutch and everythink with it presure plate etc... only cost about 90 quid and thet has been fine.

If you're planning some performance mods, now may be a good time to consider an uprated clutch.

Once you get to stage 3, the stock item just can't handle the extra power.

The best ones are either JWT, ACT or RPS and usually cost $400-$500 if imported from the States. I got an ACT clutch fitted, it was $400 from turboimports.com, it holds the power very well, but is a bit on the 'stiff' side.

Good luck,

Dave

i am not going to give the car any more power other than de cat and duel pop charger, been down the road of boost increases on all my previous cars which include:

METRO TURBO blown gasket + gear box

RENAULT 21 TURBO 2 turbos + engine rebiuld

3 DOOR COSWORTH 280 BHP wire ringed didnot blow but put a rod through the block.

does any body know how much the stock kit costs?

enough is enough i want reliability now and the "Z" is far quicker than any of the above modified cars and has far more grin factor as you will all agree.

Hi Tony,

How did the window tinting go. Did you get back your windows in the end??

its at times like this than my initialy buying an auto but wanting a manual seems to be a good one

The clutch I bought from Nissan was about 200 quid, I had to get a new master and slave cylinder as well though and that was another hundred. This was all for a NA. Fitting cost 130, which is very cheap.

Cheers,

Andy

GEORGE: not done yet booked in for this saturday for windows as they were fully booked. say hello to TONY for us and bring more sandwiches on the next meet.

Hi Tony,

Hope you sort out the clutch. Your Zed will look really nice with tinted windows. The yellow and the black will make a good contrast.

My brother Tony says "Hello and do you want ham and cheese or just plain salami". ;-)

See you soon.

George.
