Hi,

Time to put my headlights back together and just wondered what you have used to seal the unit back up? Can the original mastic be bought from anywhere as I quite like the idea of opening them back up if need be.

Cheers

Most of the original stuff has been cleaned off.

Hi Andy, problem with silicone is can't really get the glass back off if I want :(

Yes you can, just cut it with a stanley knife, it's much easier to remove than the original mastic.

I at first reused the original stuff, but found a leak, then i tried some roof and gutter sealant from a local plumbers merchant. Very flexible, black, like silcone but can be undone but very water resistant.

It's been that long since I took them apart but I didn't think you can get a blade in there????

I have some stuff that will do the job better than the original if you want me to send you some let me know. I get it from work it's basically a moisture barrier that we use in cable jointing. You place it where you need it (around the groove of the plastic bit then press the glass down with an even force and whilst doing so apply heat. Once it cools down its still not totally hard but it seals and holds the lamp together. Its black and is worst than shite on a blanket so if you do use it be careful as its a bugger :)

Nissan sells the sealant in a long bead that is black but is thermally activated and will come off again with heat and resealed. It is usually sold for the tailights. If you need a part number let me know i think i still have the box.

Hi Widebodyluis, I'd appreciate the part number just to have.

And a massive thanks to Vini, sent me some of the stuff he mentioned out by first class on Monday (even though the snow was pretty bad on Monday down South) which arrived today.

It's people like that who make this such a great forum :)
