This is a real job done recently by,( unamed Z garage ) take a guess at what it would cost for the entire job, guess how long the egr removal was booked as too.

No random figures, work it out, what would need removing what would overlap between jobs etc. and see what you think, oh and why it will not rev properly.

Fit 24 x USED hydrolic lifters ( previous ones very noisy )

Remove / by pass EGR valve

60k service

Work done with full payment up front, NO receipt given and running worse than when it went in.

i must be MILES off then on cost cos i didnt even get a no LOL

Not bad, difficult to be completely acurate because not all garages discount the crossover parts of the job ( like they should ), lets say + vat on your price and thats a fair indicator of what it should cost, but a certain ace guy is very close ( too high )

the no receipt did it for me I knew straight away then I could work out what the arsehole would charge from his tarriff

To add to the mix, when the car failed to rev correctly they suggested the (used ) lifters needed to bed in???

As I understand it the issue is still ongoing, the bill was £2k ......up front ? do these places have no cash of their own?

Yes you spot on, how this has happened is simple, a zed owner with little mechanical knowledge and a garage who took advantage and thats it nothing any more technical than that.

Makes you think of the typically stereo garage guy sucking in through his teeth and saying "gonna cost ya mate" I get really angry about this because this attitude makes it harder for any other garages who want to be open and honest as they have to overcome owners fear of been ripped off and thats before the car is even looked at!

Oh and lifters needing to bed in now that`s a riot of fun.

As much as I could the thread was more to do with warning you guys & girls to be careful not to hang the garage, they are more than capable of doing that themselves, sure some of the peeps here have recognised who by the description "money up front and no receipt"

Jeff TT

Well thats the first time I've heard of a garage wanting money up front for a job, thats unreal.
