Hi Folks,

Had to replace the slave cylinder on the other halfs Fairlady. No problem (I thought), 15 minute job, replace, bleed and back in business. Nope, for some reason I can get resistance on the pedal with the engine off, but when I start up I can't get anything. Where have I gone wrong ? :headvswal

have you bled from both nipples?

one on the slave and one on a seperate line just behind the drivers head light.

some times there's a nipple on the master aswell

Can be a pain to bleed, when the engine is running the servo assist will reduce peddle pressure so if you have air in it you will have a very light clutch, I let mine stand for half an hour after trying to bleed it, pedal was hardly moving slave cylinder when I went back the air had settled and came straight out.

Start her up for 10/15 minutes,so all things under the bonnet will warm up to about 1000 degrees:rolleyes:The now very thin oil will make bleeding the air out much easyer.

Something wrong there either the method of bleeding or the parts, bleeding the slave is a simple 10 minute job and should use no more than half to one litre of fluid.

Maybe the pedal is not coming all the way back up, this will cause the master cylinder valveing to not fully bleed air in itself, also not unknown for the master cylinder seals to fail when this happened just to spoil you day...because it can!

Thanks for the help and suggestions. The old slave cylinder had oil leaking from the boot at the clutch lever end, so that had drawn me to the conclusion that it was Thomas Cooked. Bleeding nuisance !!! I had wondered what that bleed nipple behind the headlamp was for. Thanks guys.
