is it this one Stu:

10" LXD55

A quantum leap in image brightness and resolution, the 10" LXD55 provides for a lifetime of serious study in deep-space or within the Solar System. Use Autostar to take an automatic tour, on any given evening, of, say, the 200 brightest diffuse nebulae, spiral galaxies, and globular star clusters. Or, with Autostar’s pushbutton electronic slow-motion controls, scan the surface of the Moon at high magnification. Let Autostar locate and centre in the field the outer planets Uranus and Neptune, now visible as finite-sized orbs, or Pluto, at the telescope’s very limit of observability. It is an uncommon observer who might outgrow the capabilities of this telescope.

• Type : Schmidt-Newtonian

• Mount : LXD55 Equatorial

• Objective diameter : 250mm

• Focal length : 1016mm

• Focal ratio : f/4

• Eyepiece(s) supplied : S4000 26mm

• Max. Magnification : 600x

• Finder : 6x30

£1249

I've got a telescope, certainly not as good as yours but what I really want is an adaptor so I can put my digi-cam on it. Don't bloody make one for mine though and holding it over the eyepiece is not very sucessful ! frown.gif

Glenn,

For a top notch telescope you would get somthing like this

16_lx200gps_1.gif

In the UK it will cost something like £7,000-£8,000.

From the US I reckon you could get it for about $5,000. So if you can try going US. :S

I started off with a Tasco 4" reflector which cost about £250 when I was younger and that was enough to see the rings of saturn, the nebula pictured here but no where near that quality. Even looking at it with the eye peice the image wasnt that big and detailed. It was only with the camera where you can get an image and play with the filters to get the image to come out.

Paul,

Thats not the one I have but by the spec looks very simalar if not better. Im not too up on all the different telescopes but the general rule is the larger the mirror the better.

Ours is 8" and thats 10", but then you add other things like the type of glass and the chemicals they use to coat it all makes a difference.

If your card can take the strain do it. Last night I could see the clouds on Jupiter and I was gob smacked.

Andy,

I have peice which you can screw onto a normal camera instead of a lens then put it in the telescope to take a picture. It may not fit on anything but it may help you. You could tape it into place then all use that instead of an eyepiece.

If you want drop me your address and I'll send it off. It may be useless but it may help. Its no use to me now.
