Hiyas, took the Zed for another test drive today, but finding the auto box rather strange. I got receipts with the car for a recon box only a few months before I bought it BTW...

It seems to change when it wants, or not at all, I can be in 2nd, or 3rd, and it will rev it's knackers off and not change, sometimes feels like the clutch is slipping (although it doesn't have one :-) I've tried everything with the throttle, ie. being gentle, being harsh, backing off etc. but still wont change, and also, the kick down doesn't always kick down, just revs in the same gear, and doesn't go much faster!

The fluid level is sound, but, the speed sensor has been playing up, the speedo seems to give up sometimes, and the speedo drops to zero and pops back into life a bit later, especially if i give it some beans, could that be a factor with the strange shifting? I will do a diagnostic on the box tomorrow, but has anyone got any ideas on this? :headvswal

Thanks........

Anyone? :-)

Doesent sound good mate? sorry but I cant help but doesent the auto box have 2 clutches???

Speed sensor not working will cause autobox problems. It can be worth changing the oil if its not been done recently too, and drop the sump pan of the box and clean out the filter.

If its an Import do you have a bigger autobox oil cooler fitted, if not, they really do need one.

It has fresh oil in it, just a few months ago, and has only done about 40 miles. Yeah, I've got the aux oil cooler on it too. That's good to know, the speed sensor could be the problem... Did a diagnostic today, all is fine... I'll keep ya's posted!

Also on the autobox oil cooler subject, I am sure i remember reading you can also use the engine oil cooler to replace the smaller j-spec auto cooler and then fit a aftermarket engine one ??

i plan to do this soon'ish as heard the smaller j spec one's can loose there cooling capacity at higher rpm for long periods

would be good if i could have the above confirmed though:D

and also apologies for the slight thread hi-jack

It could possibly be the TPS, i thought my auto box was knackered, checked and corrected the tps voltage and it fixed the sloppy jamming gearchanges

Is there a write up on how to do that? I know how to set the voltage, but not how to reset it will the ecu...

The guide should tell you to unplug the tps and start the car. Stop the engine again, then replug the tps in and that should reset it.

Well I've callibrated the TPS, got it spot on @ 0.425v, then took it for a test drive. No different, still doesn't want to go into 3rd (and the speedo was working too), but, if I floor it, it will go into 3rd, just at about 6000rpm or something like that, which isn't good cos it ain't been run in yet. So it will go into 3rd gear, but only when the power light comes on, ie. giving it beans. And it still doesn't always kick down, but does about 70% of the times you kick it down (if that makes sense :-) Also, if i was to back off the throttle whilst it was revving a bit higher than i would like, should it go up a gear and cruise till I give it more power?

The torque converter feels weird too, i presume it is correct that it should bite properly at 2500 revs? Sometimes goes to about 3250 ish before kicking in with a little jolt, and feels like it is slipping sometimes too, loads of engine noise but no go, strange... :headvswal

Anyone in the Bolton/Wigan area with a TT auto? There's a few pints in it if ya can take us round the block to get an idea of how it should be? :duffer:

Edited by Tudor...

For the time being try running it in hold mode, that should change gear in the higher gears quicker than normal. If that doesn't work i would chase up who installed the auto box
