Hi guys , just looking for some advice as im looking to resurrect my 300zx for this summer and looking at getting some engine work done, just not too sure what my options are yet:

 

My nissan has been off the road for the past couple of years, she was smoking quite bad everytime i pulled up at traffic lights etc and it was left idling and whilst it was off the road i was going to get it fixed however i got the chance of a wide arch kit and a few other body parts for half price last winter so i decided to fit that and have it looking mint, then start on the engine once the body was done.

 

That time has almost come and i was wondering who/where is best for me to take it to get the engine sorted, im in Glasgow but dont mind having to travel to somewhere if i know the end results are worth it and the cost is ok , as ive heard to many bad stories about putting 300zx's into garages that dont specialise in 300zxs.

 

Also , how much 'roughly' would i be looking at paying?

 

Im just after a pretty much standard rebuild as i want to go for reliablity over serious power, and im wanting to have brand new turbos fitted as im pretty sure mine are knackered.

 

Was also thinking that as my engine would be out anyway what else should be done.....oil pump, water pump renewed etc, same with all the hoses at the back of the engine?

I'd say £1000 for engine out and back in. £1000 for tubs and £1500 for other bits and £1500 labour?

 

All at very rough estimates I should add, all depend exactly what you want doing.

Most people on here who have had eng rebuilds have gone to Jimmer , as will i when the time comes:)

 

You be looking at around £1500 to remove,rebuild and refit your engine.

 

Included in this is the cost of boring your block,skimming both heads and getting the valve seats/faces re-cut and any attention the crank may need.

Aye i know Shrek took his down to Jimmer and he was very happy with the work done.

 

Its a long long way from here but i suppose if its going to end up with my engine running perfect again then it would be worth the travel.

I made a fair few calls when getting rough estimates (just before xmas)

 

the 4, people i spoke 2, all came in at around the same price for labour , but with me it's more a fact of the overall experience with the car and motor and jimmer has that!!:bow:

 

some of the people i spoke with had never heard of a 300zx (z32) let alone worked on one !

 

so just wouldn't feel happy leaving it there !:D

Whats the options with buying turbos? How much do standards ones cost + whats the next ones up from them etc (+how much do they cost) ?

Dont know mate i just thought it was better to buy brand spanking new ones instead of refurbing them and like i say i just want to have the car as reliable as possible.

If you want to upgrade your turbo's you can either stick to the 4 bolt ones like the JWT500's or you can go larger, but then if you are going to go larger you will be looking at the 5 bolt types which will require upgraded downpipes and likely fabrication of your existing exhaust.

 

But then if you are going bigger turbo's you may as well fit 555's as well.

 

Then you are looking at a remap.

 

It's a long and windy road to upgrading. It all comes down to cost v what you want.

Im very surprised mate, me and a few people i know have used them for a few years now, and had nothing but top notch service.

 

Even just calling them and getting a qoute cant hurt, then it will at least give you a benchmark price that a tuner will charge :)

Full rebuild including wiseco pistons, cometic gasket, 740cc injectors, new water pump, head skim, valves recut, cylinder rebre plus some other bits. I supplied alot of the parts but he was a very good price. He is online so you could pm him?o
