Can large wheel width in rear have negative effects on the drivetrain

As the headline says - does wide wheel width in the rear have any negative effects on the drivetrain when it is combined with increased power? Just a question that I have been wondering about.

A follow on question would be in relation to the whole set up in the rear regarding the geometry. If I had a 305 tyre or wider for example, would the setup require much adjustment? My medium term plan is increase the BHP and create a wide bodied SWB with large rear wheels. I wouldn't do the last part if it could result in potential problems in the drivetrain.

It will load things up a bit more but unless your putting a monster engine in I wouldn't worry to much, do your mods and enjoy your car.
