My (oem) boost gauge is playing up  When I switch the car on the gauge goes up to one notch above 0. But when I start and drive the car the gauge doesn't move at all . Switch off and it returns to -14. The turbos seem to be working and boosting as normal.

I had a local auto electrics firm remove my old alarm yesterday and the gauge was working fine when I took it to them. Could they have just knocked a wire or connector off? The car's going back to them tomorrow for investigation.

Does it sound like a broken connection? I'm hoping so 'cos at the moment it's one thing after another :headvswal

Cheers for any advice as usual.

Dave

If it worked before they messed with it then yes, it must have been, don't know about you but my alarm megaphone is next to the oem boost guage sender. The sender is electrical!

What postion should the sock gauge be in with the engine off and whilst idling? I have a very similar problem, doesn't do anything, but when i rev it, it twitches up a (nearly) notch and then goes back to sleep. It's a mines face on the dials, so it's in cubic inches or something??

Not sure about your gauge but the jspec stock gauge reads from -14 to +14 psi. When you switch on the gauge jumps to 0 (middle) then when the engine starts it drops to around a couple of notches from -14.

But I'm sure that someone who knows much more about it than I do will come along soon.

Thats how it should work mate,

-is negative pressure or vacuum

+is positive pressure or when the turbos are spooling.

Your gauge should only be on the plus side during boost

Sounds like they the vacuum feed has come off. It runs from the balance bar to little black box near the small fuse box in engine bay.

Just had a look mate and there is a tube next to the fusebox that isn't connected to anything! Is this the one you mean or is it a breather pipe???

I also found that the entire assembly behind the fuse box isn't bolted down! I don't know if the garage that did the alarm or not have done this and forgotten to reattach it

Lol - they sound like a good garage then! Leaving pipes disconnected and parts rattling around in the engine bay?

All sorted now thanks to legrath. The vacuum pipe had perished so I replaced it with a length of silicon tubing I had spare from my aquarium. Gauge is now back to normal.

Mine is connected tho, what could that be? The weird thing is, if I stick a pipe on the 'black box' and blow air down it, the gauge shoots right up ???
