i am considering the option of having the bottom end strengthened on my zed, after it blew last weekend. is it worth it? and what can i do? has anyone here done it? it just seems as situationn of " if you need to repair then you might as well upgrade". i dont want the bottom end going again thats all?

depends what your goals are, how much you want to spend.

at the end of the day if you start doing the bottom end youll end up spending a good 4 k to have it all done properly.

You can do loads of things

Crank

Rods

Pistons

ect that will all contribute to a more bomb proof bottom end.

Hello Mate,

Sorry to hear about your woes, I don't know how much BHP you are running, but the Z32 bottom end is meant to handle 600BHP!

From the sounds of what happened, it would be cheaper to get a baffled sump!

By the way, someone posted a discussion a while ago, between the top Z tuners and they said that big end bearing shells from the Z31 are tougher and cheaper than the Z32 equivalent and are interchangeable!

Good Luck,

Mark

Steve, sos to hear about yer troubles buddy, my car had to emigrate to RC last year for a rebuild and it had a NEW short block and recon head only 32,000 earlier, anyways this is my 2p worth.

Either way it's an engine out then in job, so mucho labour bill, recon or second hand engine, anywhere from £450 to £2,000,who knows what may happen to that one. so you really need your engine opened up and fault determined 100%, so for the cost of a decent S/H engine your mechanic should be able to do rings, big ends and hone the bores and check oil pump and you know alls well, if yer had loads of dosh, yes go for uprated parts, but only if yer chasing bigger power cos as we all know, the bottom ends really are quite strong, next has got to be something to help with track days if that's yer game, dry sumping is probably best, Zed's in US do it, the problem of oil not circulating properly on Zeds in race/track conditions is not unusual, i believe Stillen made an upgraded PCV system for such problems

, So in short, for yer pocket and peace of mind for the future, strip yours down and rebuild to stock levels, then do something to prevent the same problem again before you do more track days.

cheers
