300's up to 1/8/95 not subject to cat test

just checked my MOT gas analyzer - zeds are not in the database. checked the emission book from the ministry - not in it!!!!

that means a non cat test is given biggrin.gif

after 1/8/95 a default cat test is given regardless.

Paul, any ideas on this,i read somewhere(may still have it)that imports such as the zx,skylines etc are only subject to a test the same as a Q plate or kit car,i think its the data they use from the late 1970s,i could of course be totaly wrong, just wonderd, cheers

My understanding is that they are only subject to the test if the model is explicitly listed in the testers book. As the car is a Jap spec. 300zx Fairlady then it's not there !

This is the decision chart used by the UK DoT MOT testers in order to determine whether a catalyst or non-catalyst test is performed for the emissions test :-

From the "Customer Copy" printout of the last MOT for my UK '94 spec car done by a Nissan dealer:

MOT Exhaust Emissions Test Results:

Non-catalyst equipped vehicle (metered check)

Vehicle Information

Catalyst: Yes Oxygen Sensor: Yes

Conditioning Specfic data Actual data

Idle HC Max 1200 182 OK

Idle CO Max 3.5 1.98 OK

The car was tested as non-catalyst equipped even thought the printout shows that catalysts were fitted?

So that proves that they tested yours correctly, being a '93/94 UK spec model. Incidentally my '92 import was tested the same way.

imports get exactly the same MOT as any car m8, if it aint registered yet then the registration mark is put down as the VIN number.
