The car has been acting up recently and i keep coming across this one.. I take the car not too far, but to about 4500 and the car just completely stops accelerating and i have to change gear... Am i guessing im getting fuel cut??

First gear its fine, second gear its fine, 3rd, 4th and 5th are getting to a certain RPM and completely stopping, the car WILL NOT rev any more..

tonight i took the nose panel off and gave the MAF connector a bit of a wiggle (very nice of the nose panel bolts thread to completely break as in away from home!! My friend lucky had spares!) and on the way home i took the car to at least 6K rpm and it had no fuel cut?!?!? I haven't drove it since then so i cant say if the problem is still there.

Any other ideas of what it might be?

Car is ran on 97 - 99ron

S2 PTU

Been acting up when the weather is extremely cold, never use to have this problem!

mine has been a little strange in the cold starts fine first time il reverse it out my drive put it into 1st on the auto box then when you pull away it seems to struggle then cut out. leave it for a min then start it and its fine only get it first thing when its really cold

Sounds like you have answered your own question Murt?

Maybe the MAF connector is dirty/damaged and/or maybe the MAF is breaking down.

Hi,

mine also cuts but it happens regardless of the gear or revs. If I feader the throttle, it sometimes cuts... The engine stops accelerating (exactly the same as if I lifted the throttle)... But if I press the clutch, it doesn't stall. Also no warning lights on the display.

If I keep my foot down, it only makes things worse. It will then take much longer to start responding again.

What I do to recover is back off the accelerator, wait some moments (1-3 seconds) and try again. Usually it recovers.

It does this cold/hot regardless.

So far I replaced the fuel pressure regulator and dampener. Replaced the PTU (old style=>new style). Replaced the air filter. Cleaned the throttle bodies. Fixed two vacuum leaks.

No change... Once I found out what it is, I'll let you know. :)

Please do the same.

Regards,

Vítor

Ohhh... And it never happens when going 50% => full throttle.

Please don't take this as a thread hijack... I just believe we share the same problem... Or at least very similar.

Unfortunatly, I spend (like any high power car I guess) most time feathering the throttle, so this can be anoying as hell!

Noticed another thing... With the cruise control on, it happens the same thing. But it get's so jerky that the cruise control sets itself off...

Don't know if this piece of information helps anyone in the diagnose... Hope so. :)

By the way, how can I edit a post?! :S

Cheers,

Vítor
