Typical isnt it, tightened up my fuel piping on the plenum cuz i had a small leak when i start the, all was fine for a couple days. Cold night last night, started the car this morning to just move parking space, fuel everywere, long line of fuel from the old parling space all the way to the new. Look under the car, was pouring from under the engine, quickly turned it off. grrrr :headvswal :headvswal

Anyway, plenum is coming off.

So the speed sensor, i readon here some managed to re-magnetise their speed sensor. So i finally bought a jack and 2 axle stands, popped out the sensor, i couldnt see ANY way of getting to the coil inside the sensor.

Does anyone know how to re-magnetise the sensor? i.e. how to dismantle a speed sensor.

Sorted my fuel leak after replacing several pipes. Primed the fuel pump, went back to have a sniff, fuel everywhere again, so i started wiggling ALL the fuel pipes, turns out it was the main fuel pipe coming from the fuel filter. If i just touched it lightly, it would spurt fuel everywhere. The pipe was HEATING HOSE and the bore was way too big, no wonder it leaked. Replaced with real fuel hose and all sorted, no leaks at all! woohoo.

Its been a few years since I had a speed sensor in my hand but I recall the sensor is a sealed unit, you can get the pinion gear off but thats about it. also be carefull putting it back in as the pinion is only plastic and you can get it wrong and strip the worm off it. To be truthfull you will get sick of getting under the car to get it in and out. Just get one off one of the breakers and have done

Which leads me to my next question :)

Is there a way to test the speed sensor when its out of the car? guessing putting a meter on it and spinningthe gear???

Stick a multi meter on it, and set it to, well I can't remember exactly what voltage, but DC volts, and spin the end, it basically works like a dynamo you used to have on your bike as a kid, you should get a reading if it's working... Like grunt said, the manual is what ya need, sure you'll find it easily on here :-) And technically yes, it is a sealed unit, but can be opened and repaired, it was my Dad who fixed mine (hense the thread mentioned earlier, for which I (him) have yet to do a write up for :-)

HTH, good luck matey...
