Just went to go out in the zed earlier and it's no longer starting at all. This is only about 1hr after having just driven it without any issues.

Some of you might remember i change to a mines ecu a couple of months ago and i notice straight away that it took longer to start up, only 0.5 seconds or so but definitely noticeable.

I go to start up and the starter kicks in but the engine doesn't fire into life at all. Not even a splutter or a murmur. Just the starter going at it.

Anyway;

I've checked the battery and even tried a known good one. No issues there, plenty of juice. external lights don't dim at all.

Disconnected the fuse for all aftermarket audio install so it's not draining any power.

Going to swap the ecu back tomorrow to the original, then it's back to stock specs.

Checked fuses in the engine bay.

Connectors to the temp sensors, ptu, tps are clean and un-corroded.

Fuel pump is working.

Noticed when the dash lights come on that the hicas light stays on and also there is a red light above the hicas that looks like a 'full beam'.

Where to go from here though?

Right do not worry about the dash lights they do not go out until the engine starts.

Non starting in your situation is usually caused by

1) flooding

Poor connection to temp sensor, after cleaning up, you will need to do a fuel clear out by turning the engine over with the fuel pump fuse removed and foor flat on accelerator( located in slim black box by brake master cylinder ) ignition back off, refit fuse, then restart without touching the accelerator

2) lack of spark

PTU clean connections and then undertake a flooded engine restart

3) lack of fuel

Run out of petrol? Cas unit connection not giving crank signal ( check connection and refit located on cam belt cover front right of engine)

One or more of those will apply, if it was running fine previously it is not anthing too bad, ....JUST A CHRISTMAS GREMLIN

Well i've done the ecu diagnostic on the mines ecu and I get code 55, so it would seem all good there.

I've got the PTU (series 2) out and done the diagnostic with a multimeter according to the workshop manual.

Now i've triple checked what i'm doing with the multimeter and i'm definately not getting the same results as in the manual. In the table on tests 1 & 3 my results are the opposite way round, and in test 2 I get a resistance of about 500ohmms when there should be no continuity at all.

I'm thinking it's safe to say that the PTU is not right???

I expect the series ll PTU to have a similar method of testing but the fgures are likely to be different as the it is all solid state wher the earlier unit is not.

Have you checked the cas unit connection?

Goin out to check the cas connection now. You've lost me a bit on your first sentence lol, My car is a 95 and appears to have the newer s2 ptu in, but does not match the test results from the 95 manual?

Sorry matey was looking at the picture old the series l ptu and assumed the proceedure was different between the two.

Well made a tool to push the tab open on the cas connector. All nice a shiny there no corrosion :/

The reason i asked for your address is i have a spare s1 ptu, but oh well

We sorted it :), it was the mines ecu at fault!

I had a mines ECU and it fried on me completely screwed up the car!! Good to hear it sorted out :D

Aye yes sorted now, can't really accept it in my head that it was the mines ecu. No ecu error codes but it was stiff a duffer!
