Anyone advise me on a decent set? My offside front Spring has gone on my daily driver (GT TDI) and rather than just replace the stock spring, I was considering doing what i should have done a while ago and drop it 40mm all round so it handles a little better...

Anyone recommend a decent spring or kit manufacturer for the Mk4 Golf??? I'm looking at Koni, Eibach and Spax but there is a 'Jamex' make that i've come accross in a couple of sites that seem to look ok and be recommended by a couple of forums and the price is keen....Quality and function is what i'm after rather than cheap crap though...anyone got any thoughts for me?

A close friend of mine has a set of Spax lowering springs on his Mk4 and is very happy with them. Handling was improved no end and it also sits much nicer on the 20" Audi (A8) multispoke alloys.

H&R all the way. One of the best spring manufacturers in the world. I tried in vain to get them for my Z, but they were special order only @ £600! They'll be about £200 mark for the Golf though I'd imagine.

You get the Eibach type level of comfort, but with a slightly lower drop.

If you want my advice mate get the shocks done too as with just springs it will shake you to bits and you will get the hump with it! I did just the springs on my GT TDI and tried 3 different makes all were the same they shake you to bits and also make the anti-roll bar drop links fall to bits in a matter of months ( i had 4 sets of drop links in 3 years ). When i changed to a full kit the ride was much better no banging or crashing about on bumps. You will also need to remove the plastic belly pan as when you lower a golf it will hit the ground on the smallest of bumps.

I had eibach springs with koni shocks and 18" alloys with p zeros on mine in the end it went round corners like a dream :)

Hope this helps mate.

Cheers Matt Was just going to do the springs as my stock Nearside Front has gone. I'm only going to be keeping her another few months and was going to go slightly lower rather than stock. Was he ride really that bad on stock Shocks? I'm only looking at 35-45mm really as those in the know tell me that all the 60mm drops handle crap and have to be constantly re-tweaked? The other reason is that i use her like a van occasionally and throw a few bags of sand and a couple of building blocks in the boot for the other house im doing up so can't go too low! Was yours dropped 60mm??

Tubz, drop me line if you going to buy from a retailer rather than Ebay as some of my customers include Awesome GTI, AMD, VAG Tech and VAG Speed so should be able to get you a discount.
