Hey all

Well after almost a year and a half of being in and out of the garage I finally got it out on track for a shakedown. Brands today

Its running 410fwhp and 400ftlb torque according to the dyno. I'm guessing about 360 at the rear wheels.

Was very tentative on the first couple of laps and took it very steady but slowly got used to the track and started to put my foot down. I have a long way to go before I get to understand where the break points are but i was really impressed.

Grip was huge I dont think I got it out of shape at anytime except when I was a bit clunky with the steering. Going through surtees and into mclaren the car really did feel very planted and loading up around and into Clarke still did not unsettle it. I will push harder next time but I felt pretty comfortable today. On the straights it was very quick indeed coming past the paddock.

The gears were ok but could be tighter (can I get the linkages changed do you think? to cure this).

Temperature climbed to a steady 2/3rds on the gauge and happily came back to middle when I came back in.

The suspension I think is a bit too soft at the back but seemed fine at the front. I will have to give the rear a few more clicks.

Brakes were awesome although I think the ABS was kicking in as when I was standing on the brakes it felt like I had a warped disk but realised this was the ABS.

All in all I am really impressed by the Zed. It was very very capable and I'm really looking forward to learning to drive it better as the limiting factor today was definately me.

Cheers All :duffer:

I think next time i'll be doing an academy day with Motor Sports events. They set up courses that make the car break traction so that you can find where the limit is and get used to it. That would be the most useful thing I can think of next to be able to get used to it. I'll keep you posted if you fancy coming along. Jimmy when do you get back on the road?

you can replace the gearsick bushes and put a short shifter on, makes a big difference. Sounds like you had a good day. Did you do the full day or the 20min sessions.

Thanks Stella! Well chuffed!

Jaffa I booked a number of 20 min sessions so that I could bring it in, in between just to make sure nothing was wrong. Had some rubbing on my back tyre but otherwise all good.

Jimmy! thats no time at all!

Ive got a short shifter and copper shifter bushed already. Anything else?

what size wheels and tyres do you have and what offset?

Hey Stevie

Ive got 265 falken rears and 245 pzero up front. The wheels are a 35 offset and up front I have 3mm spacers to clear the brake calipers. I think the rubbing was due to the rear dampers being set too soft and therefore bit too much roll. Ive clicked them up and I'll get my arches rolled in the new year as I cant be a%^ed with spacers and changing tyres etc.

I should have said its my first track day in the zed not ever! lol

are the 18" or 19"?

Whats your suspension setup? shocks-springs-arb's-bushings-tension rods etc etc.... setting the dampers harder wont stop the roll the spring stiffness will and the anti roll bars. Dampings just the speed at which the shocks rebound.

Hey Jimmy

Ksports coil overs 8 front 6 back

all poly bushes

all after market rose jointed parts where possible

Stillen ARB's

standard lower arms

Geometry set up by garage

Had a look at my coilovers and one of the rears had been set softer than the other! must have been an oversight last time I ran it into the garage would make sense as it was only rubbing on one side.

I'll take it out this weekend for a blast and see if I get the same problems.

Its quite surprising how much roll your getting on that setup tho..... those front tyres must be giving you loads of grip.

If you look at your tyres after the track check to see if the outsides are worn, if they are then you could use a little more negative camber to increase tyre surface on the track, but too much will effect braking grip and acceration grip so you have to take other things into account, there are loads of things you can adjust to give more traction grip etc.. but some create worse effects in other areas etc. But this is the joys of learning suspension geometry setup.

Hey Jimmy

I noticed that there was an open pit lane day on the 13th of february at Brands!

I think it was due to the one rear being set up as soft as possible. Ive corrected it and will give it a blast.

Fronts were fine

Damping wont effect roll tho :( spring and roll bar stiffness will.

Hey mate

See below from my manual of suspension tuning:

Rebound damping controls how the car reacts to dips in the road and how quickly transitional role is generated on entering a turn, note this is not the total amount of roll just how quickly the car reaches this roll limit. Firm up the rebound damping all round until the level of body roll is minimised. Rebound damping doesn’t affect the total amount of body roll merely how that roll is achieved, roll itself is more directly controlled by spring rates and anti-roll bars.

I may need to get the ride height at the back raised a little. I'd be happy with this as I think its set a bit low. Or just get some wheels /tyres tha fit and get my arches rolled!!!
