ECU identification i have no23 with a knob on side with some jap writing ..

2 wires green coming of what seems to be a vairiable resistor..

any ideas what this is for ???

got ecu out as new chip coming tommorow and just interested what its for.

also chip reads m105ada5 is this a standard chip

cheers:)

Jap spec Twin Turbo with automatic box, standard chip, the green wires will most likely be an after market device for altering the a/f signal to fool the ecu into adding fuel, very poor way of been able to run more boost, if you having a chip done, remove the cables and device or it will mess with the new chip.

Cheers jeff i thought it was something fishy i work with electronics boards and the likes every day and i can spot a solder blimp a mile off and these wires although look well installed just did not look right to primative..plus the knob end was broken off ..

hopefully removing it might make thinks better hope so

cheers

what should i do i need to find out if my ecu is a bog standard ecu or not

Jeff does your ecu have a vairiable resistor in it right next to the led for diagnostics i assume .it has a silver sticker over it with arrows pointing around the circle one end a line the other end a block baffled. will do more research..

The auto ecu is not a problem especially if your changing the chip, and as far as the green wires I misunderstood and thought you you meant they were outside of the ecu, the ones inside are standard and are connected to the switch used for accessing fault codes.

To check the eprom mapping the easiest way is to get it on a ConZult diagnostic, that way you can check it completely as I have seen stock chips erased and reprogrammed the chip number is not always a secure sign of what is on it.

cheers jeff well at least i know what the switch is for now and whatever is on chip is coming off as i am changing it putting a socket on board so i can change as i want..

thankyou jeff ..

i might buy on of the conzult kits as i pln on having e few of these cars in times to come and would be very handy..

just another quicky is it easy to do the diagnostics to check for faults and where would i find a fault guide to the codes ??

Easy peazy mate, that variable resistor you were talking about earlier, (if the ECU is in situ) turn it fully clockwise and keep it there for 2 seconds, then fully counter clockwise, that'll put it into diagnostic mode, as for the codes, do a search, you'll find all the info you need on here somewhere I'm sure, but if you get '55' (5 long flashes, 5 short flashes) then happy days, that means all is well in camp Zed :-)
