The main leakage point for hicas is the U pipe that run form the bottom of the resovoir to the pump. Have a look if the level has dropped again and if so look under the car for sign of fluid (I mean the underside rather than the floor).

hi there, if u r not losing any fluid it could be a number of things. my hicas light comes and goes because of an aftermarket steering wheel, the sensors r not aligned on the coloumn.

there is a test for the hicas system. try a search on here.

Dump the hicas its crap buy a lock out bar or something similar.

However you can do a hicas diagnostic test which will enable the rear wheels to turn when stationary and flash up error codes on the hicas light:

with the car stationary and in nuetral

- Sit in car with ignition off

- Make sure steering wheel is central

- turn ignition on start car

- Perform the following all within 10 seconds:

- Turn steering wheel from left to right 5 times (so that about 10 actual movements)

- then press the brake pedal 5 times

Now thats how to do it, but i doubt you will ever be able to get it to work so heres how i get it working everytime ;)

-in neutral turn car on with steering wheel straight.

-turn steering wheel left and right to 20degrees each side while simultaiously pressing the brake pedal on and off

Now if its worked the steering should go heavy and the rear wheels should move when you turn the wheel, the hicas light will also display any error codes you have :D

if it hasnt worked you must turn igniton off and start again you cant try to repeat the test as you only have within 10 seconds to do so.

anyone know what size pipe/length and type i need to replace the leaking one, its making my alternator squeal like a bitch when cold. Is it a pig to do?

There are quite a few pas pipes, you will need to find out which one is leaking and order it from MJP or Nissan. (MJP will be cheaper and will not only know what a 300zx is but will know the exact part you require..unlike Nissan)

They are high pressure lines and require the correct hose with fittings, you cant just use universal pipe.

sit in the car with ignition on,

turn steering wheel, press brake pedal,

jump out of car and shout "F**K IT"

run round car 5 times,

kick the dog or cat,

go indoors and have a beer and forget the test!!!

i have tried it, and it never works!!!

works each and everytime for me :D

i did it earlier and it defo works,

Centre steering wheel and turn car on,

wiggle wheel left to right and keep taping the brakes untill the steering goes all hard

then turn the wheel slightly so the rear wheels move and drive forward 15 foot and it'll throw out a code

Defo works mate
