Need a little clarification here.

I was all set for changing my side lights, which I thought were 501's in the fog light. However, when I looked at the fogs, there's just 1 bulb which appears to be both fog and side.

Thought I was going made, so checked the indicator housing and there's one bulb for the indicator, and another which I've never seen on! WTF!?!?!?!

Its a 94 Jap spec car. Am I right in thinking that UK cars have the side lights in the indicator housing, and Jap spec with the fog? So there should be 2 bulbs in my fog and only the indicator in the indicator housing.

To add to my confusion, the fog light is just soldered to the wire and has a white braided cover on the wire, so not even sure how I'd change this.

stock jap spec is small side light bulb in the fog light unit, just indicator and a blank bit in the indicator

after about 94/95 they added cornering(or Kerb) lights in the blank bit of the indicator which come on when your headlights are on and you are indicating (bulb is same size bulb as indicator and fog)

some people with cars pre cornering light move their side lights from the fog to the blank bit of the indicator either by buying newer indicator units or by modifying the blanks

from memory the stock jap fog/side has a conector cliped to the back, fed from 3 wires

Yep I have cornering lights, which I've never (noticed before but now think are amazing) but I'm sure there's only one bulb in the fog unit. I'll have another look at the weekend and try and get some pics up.

Normally, JDM cars have two bulbs in the foglight enclosure:

H3 = Fog light

501 = Side light

To me it sounds like your JDM fog light enclosures were changed for US-spec fog light enclosures. These only have one bulb (H3 I believe). The reason that yours has been soldered together is most likely due to the fact that H3 bulbs have a male spade connector and the car takes a male bullet connector. So a previous owner must have cut off the two connectors and soldered them together ... It is quite easy to make a short conversion lead. One end has female spade connector, other end male bullet connect. Job done.
