Hi.

Without prejudice.

I got bumped into by a neighbour last week, only dented the wing.

The woman who hit the zed said 'i will ring my insurance', i rang mine (the a*)

who organized a hire car.

All going well, until a letter arrives today 'vehicle claim not accepted, vehicle uninsured' :slap::headvswal

They are saying that as i got the insurance through 'c*mparethemarket.com' , who dont have a tickbox, or any indication of a uk,or imported car, that i failed to declare its an import.Would i like a quote for new cover :mac1:

How i didnt swear at them, i dont know.

So, i'm stuffed, i've rung + been polite, been firm, lost the plot+ shouted, but still i'm not insured. :hurl:

Any ideas what i can do from here?

Get a solicitor or motor legal advisor on this ASAP...AA or RAC should help you out and worth joining either for this advice alone. If it's with the AA as i think you're alluding to then ring their motor legal helpline and ask for advice! Just don't name that it's themselves as the insurers who've let you down at this point. If they advise in your favour then hit the insurance department with both barrells telling them that even their own legal team advise in your favour..

do you mind me asking who you're insured with? I had a problem with mine being insured as uk spec - fortunaltely i realised when i got the docs, but would rather get a quote from an insurer who (seemingly) doesn't take the p on imports!!

rich

I'm with Sky Insurance at the moment. maybe i should have requested an updated certificate, but I have verbal confirmation and a note of who said it and when they said it so fingers crossed that'll be enough.

Verbal is worth nothin

My mate was about to buy a policy as they said he could drive other cars on it, he asked them to fax it in writing and they said, erm oh actually it doesnt!

i wouldnt give them the hired car back till you got the leagal side sorted out then you would have a bargaining chip against them

After a bout of emailing+ letter writing to my broker, they have decided to pay out + keep me insured.but, only if i keep car unmodded.

Gutted to lose my kakimotos, but at least i'm not going to have any hassle in the future(could of had to declare i had insurance cancelled, which bumps premium)

Damage all fixed now, off to zedworld tomorrow for cambelt etc

How it looked :-

I would advise everyone with an import+or modifications to check their policys, the engineer even commented on my re-leathered seats.

Glad you got it sorted bud, insurance companines have nothing on Dick Turpin! They can just changes rules to suit them.
